Licking Pans

OnlyaMan · 25/04/2020 20:47

My wife is in the process of making a meal. It will turn out fine, because she is a good cook.
But she has just wiped out a pan (several times) with her finger, and licked it clean.
I think that is disgusting, and rather like a cat.
My wife disagrees.
Opinions?

I assume the pan will be washed after?

If so, YABU. It's fine.

AbsolutePleasure · 25/04/2020 20:48

Cats don't have fingers.

YouJustDoYou · 25/04/2020 20:50

It would be gross if she were sticking her finger in food about to be served but in her own home, before washing it up, why not?

Curiosity101 · 25/04/2020 20:50

Assuming she's going to wash it before using it again then I don't see the issue. As I grew up it was common to do this with lots of things.

Bowls + spoons when making cakes
Pans and mashers when making mash potato
Pans and spoons when making a cheese sauce

Obviously, it was only once you were done cooking with the items and all leftover coating of food would have gone down the drain / in the bin.

helloneighbour · 25/04/2020 20:52

Wouldn't say it's disgusting YABU

OnlyaMan · 25/04/2020 20:54

Maybe I am wrong then. But I have never seen Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsay do such a thing.

PotholeParadise · 25/04/2020 20:56

You don't see either of them doing the washing up or loading the dishwasher as part of the show either...

TwoZeroTwoZero · 25/04/2020 20:56

That's 'cos they're on telly! If they weren't in front of all those cameras I bet they'd be doing the same. Does you never lick out the bowl after making a cake?

TwoZeroTwoZero · 25/04/2020 20:56

Does you? I obviously meant do you!

Smidge001 · 25/04/2020 20:58

You definitely see Nigella do it though Grin

OnlyaMan · 25/04/2020 20:59

My wife has said "Nobody is on your side". I think I am in the wrong.

Ah dont sweat the small stuff, have a Wine and fucking chill lol

helloneighbour · 25/04/2020 21:01

I think she'd prefer the comment that her culinary skills are in comparison to that of JO and Ramsay more than the comment that she's like a cat. I bet they have it once in their life off camera though

Waitingforadulthood · 25/04/2020 21:03

Yabu. Surely that's the benefit of making and eating food in your own house? I've worked in the food industry and follow strict hygiene rules and standards necessary for the circumstances. Happy to.

But at home? Of course not. Clean yes, but do I dip my tasting spoon in more than once? Of course. A empties pan of sauce- why not clean the last lovely bits out? I don't wear a hairnet at home either.

NetballHoop · 25/04/2020 21:03

I'm going to assume that you and your wife have vigorously 'exchanged fluids' in the past.

If so then licking the bowl is positively sanitary in comparison.

chatterbugmegastar · 25/04/2020 21:04

I think I am in the wrong.*

You are

Be grateful for your wife and all she does Grin

HotCrossBungle · 25/04/2020 21:05

Obvs you are wrong

LochJessMonster · 25/04/2020 21:05

You never licked the cake mix out the bowl as a child? Shock

vodkaredbullgirl · 25/04/2020 21:05

Reminds me of a cat i used to have, she dipped her paw in my tea when it was cool and lick her paws.

HotCrossBungle · 25/04/2020 21:06

More importantly what was in the pan?

MsVestibule · 25/04/2020 21:06

Why on earth are you comparing your wife's habits to a telly chefs??? I ALWAYS lick pans, bowls etc. If I was as being filmed, to be watched by millions of people, I probably wouldn't. You're weird.

Pieceofpurplesky · 25/04/2020 21:10

I really could lower the tone here and suggest next time you ask for a blow job your wife tells you no as it's disgusting to put things in her mouth.

Unless she is licking the plate in a restaurant it's not a problem really

SnickettyLemon · 25/04/2020 21:12

Bugger, I didn't realise my other half was on Mumsnet. It's okay babes I will wash the pan when I have finished dinner.

Sparklesocks · 25/04/2020 21:18

Well your wife is kindly making you dinner so surely she can lick the pan if she likes 😁
