Celebrities making their children famous

Postmanbear · 25/04/2020 19:33

Just seen the advert of Chris Evans for Virgin Radio and it’s gives me the rage. His son is now relatively famous at an age when he has no real understanding of what that means. I think this is irresponsible parenting especially coming from someone who has been honest about the struggles that being famous can bring.
Various other celebrities have done the same thing and it ends up with their children being famous for who their parents are and it hasn’t always gone well.

Apologies for the typos, too much wine.

Is there any difference between this and any other young child actor? (Although I don’t think the wee boy struggled to get the gig)!

HerRoyalNotness · 25/04/2020 19:42

I couldn’t care less. If I was in a position to give my children a leg up, then of course I would.

There’s lots of talentless offspring of celebs about in their 20s/30s, it seems such a shame when they were afforded the best education and could have done something productive. I guess the likes of theBeckham and Gallagher kids don’t bother cultivating any learning or talent because they know that they are millionaires regardless.

KenDodd · 25/04/2020 20:01

Yanbu.

The only thing I have any respect for Boris Johnson about if that he has kept his kids hidden. Although, I'm sure his motivation isn't about protecting them, it's about protecting himself (trying to). The fact we haven't heard a word from his ex(s) and children makes me think he must have a superinjunction on them.

june2007 · 25/04/2020 20:04

I don,t see the issue. It,s one advert.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/04/2020 20:21

Meh, it's an advert about them talking over breakfast, it would be odd with a random kid. Him using his actual child fits in with the script Re stop asking me questions, but it's my job. Can't really get my knickers in a twist

It isn't a photo book of awful photos afterall

Hoohaahoo · 25/04/2020 20:23

I’m not a fan of celebrities showing their children off at all. If the child is 16 or over then fair enough but any age before that is just wrong imo.

MorganKitten · 25/04/2020 20:26

Theo, destiny four where photographed a lot when he was still with his wife, when they divorced she didn’t take them to events.
The super injunction about his several other children was thrown out by a judge.

BubblyBarbara · 25/04/2020 20:29

YABU I think it’s a good insurance policy. You can’t leave a legacy to your children anymore without a 40% tax ripoff so might as well give them something that can’t be taxed: fame.

Saladaysior · 25/04/2020 20:34

The Beckhams are the worst. Constantly posting set pieces- their kids helping make dinner, doing their homework etc, all very scripted, ‘ooh look you’re drawing a picture, tell us all about it.’ Not very fair when the kids are too young to give consent to being plastered in the media

HarrietTheShy · 25/04/2020 20:52

More on the nepotism side, Kate Winslet's daughter (19) has a top acting agent and two acting credits already. Takes years for most actors to get to that place.

KenDodd · 26/04/2020 15:08

So Boris Johnson did try to have his ex and his kids gagged?

wiltingflower · 26/04/2020 15:19

I think when celebrities do this it's done out of love for their child and wanting to make sure they are developing some sort of career of their own. Maybe celebrities choose this route over any others because that's what they know best and don't know of alternatives. I think they must exercise caution because fame must be particularly difficult for young people to handle and hopefully they do support their child with this.

I see it as similar to those parents who use their contacts, knowledge, money to help their child get certain grades, have specific experiences, get their first jobs, get into certain universities etc. I think any loving parent would want to try to help their child in any way they could.

It doesn't mean that things are fair for everyone who don't have celebrity parents or parents who can help with their careers though.

SemperIdem · 26/04/2020 15:27

It’s tedious but has gone on since forever. Ronnie Wood’s, Keith Richards and Mick Jagger’s daughters have all been models, and there’s only one amongst them all who would have stood a chance without the famous name they inherited.

Where would Nicholas Cage be without his famous relatives? Probably lucky to get casual work on a tacky American soap.

It isn’t just famous people either. The legal sector, for example, has always been dreadful for being keeping it in the family.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/04/2020 15:33

Did you ever listen to his radio 2 show? Noah had been part and parcel of that for a very long time..."kissa kissa" etc.

Or

ZandathePanda · 26/04/2020 15:35

Boris creates the impression that he spends a lot of time cultivating Boris rather than children. At least a couple of his kids went to boarding school so I doubt he saw them a lot. There’s obviously some that he sees rarely if at all.

Michael Goves daughter’s Instagram on the other hand Shock is very famous at the moment. I can’t imagine they ‘cultivated’ that.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/04/2020 15:36

And having now watched the ad it's pretty much what they have been doing since Noah could speak.

He's just going to work with dad again. Hasn't been sent down a catwalk in inappropriate clothing or similar.

ZandathePanda · 26/04/2020 15:38

Oops TikTok not Instagram - so old!

couchlover · 26/04/2020 15:40

It happens in every industry! In my first proper job I was there 14 years and whenever new people were shown around every office had someone related to someone from another office so it was 'This Tim, he is Sharon's so, this is bob, he is married jean' etc.

You help out family and friends even if its just telling them about a job first or giving them help and advise.

I see Chris being no different to a non celeb getting their children in as child actors etc.

Look at jamie oliver, 5 kids but its his 4th who seems to enjoy the lime light more and following in his dad's footsteps so I assume the older three weren't interested so they weren't pushed.

Crinkle77 · 26/04/2020 15:47

How do you know they don't have any talent or cultivate and learning. You have no idea what they do behind closed doors. Isn't Brooklyn a keen photographer? Perhaps he is trying to cultivate that talent.

Standrewsschool · 26/04/2020 15:51

Although Zoe Ball mentioned her family, apparently they didn’t put them in the spotlight, which his why they were surprised when Woody opted to do The Circle and become more we’ll known and recognisable.
