If you have a cough, as innocuous as you might think it is! Why are you out? Just walked on my daily walk for about half an hour. 3 people walking past in safe distance all coughing 🤨 what the hell is wrong with people 😞

OP posts:
Candyflosscookie · 25/04/2020 11:18

I tell you something, these Covid threads are making it very easy to know which OPs to avoid in future!
Get a grip OP. You're either paranoid or just stirring the pot for a bit of froth. It's getting rather dull now.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 11:18

If you can guarantee that you won't be near other people then you aren't doing any harm MigginsMs. I think that to live in a place where that can be guaranteed is pretty rare though.
I'm mostly thinking about people in shops, who do have someone else that could shop for them, but go anyway. Or who stand too close to others in the queue for the chemist and then cough. The people I've seen doing it are most definitely not wearing masks which is the safest way to avoid contaminating others.

Imstillskanking · 25/04/2020 11:19

You have no idea why a stranger happens to be coughing as you walk past them at a distance of several metres. Just get on with your walk and keep as far away from other people as you can.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 11:20

What's your point about out masks hobnob? I think we all know that the ones available to the public aren't perfect but may be helpful (if used correctly) in helping us not to spread anything that we might have.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/04/2020 11:21

I find my hayfever is worse in the evenings. Luckily DH is more reasonable than some people and leaves me too it. I'm actually more impressed he can actually sleep through my coughing!

MrsExpo · 25/04/2020 11:22

I have a slight hay fever cough at this time of year: my friend coughs due to a heart condition: my husband has a congestive chest condition which causes him to cough occasionally.

Not all coughs are C19 related. YABU ....

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 11:22

Candy, if you all avoid me, I'll be very happy Wink

Sparklingbrook · 25/04/2020 11:30

We need a Coronavirus AIBU section. With just the YABU button to click. Never have I read so much alarmist old cobblers than the last few weeks...

BreathlessCommotion · 25/04/2020 11:30

I have a residual cough from COVID-19. I did my 7 days indoors, I'm now 2 weeks on with an occasional cough. I'm not staying indoors until it disappears.

enjoyingSun · 25/04/2020 11:31

I've had hayfever since teen - asthma for over a decade - sometime I get a cough with it. I'm not guessing I have these condition been diagnosed by GPs - hayfever was really bad first few years- and treated by many differnt GP over the years.

FIL has heart tablets that have a known side affect of giving him a dry cough.

Maybe this what will drive the wearing of face masking to be common.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/04/2020 11:32

@Candyflosscookie I'm beginning to think MN shouldn't allow name changing. It would make it easier to keep track of the more fanatical OPs!

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 25/04/2020 11:33

I went for a run this morning, relishing my day off, I took a swig from my water bottle, and it just went down the wrong way.Cue a full on coughing fit. I got some looks from other runners and cyclists (seafront very early this morning) and a very wide berth, but I'm not unwell I essentially just choked!

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 11:34

So you can exercise your right to freedom, in the contexts where it matters to you, but deny others theirs. Oh the irony

Sparklingbrook · 25/04/2020 11:34

Oh and we could have a 'Post a frothy OP and never return to it' section. Smile

enjoyingSun · 25/04/2020 11:35

People feaking out about perfectly legitmate non covid coughs - driving masks to be worn more generally I mean.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 11:37

No one is freaking out about the non Covid cough. Only the fact that the act of coughing raises the chance of Covid being spread if you have it unknowingly, in addition to whatever is making you cough.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/04/2020 11:47

Maybe not freaking out but telling people to stay at home because they have hay fever is hardly rational!

Quartz2208 · 25/04/2020 11:57

@MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously the chances hayfever been a point of transmission for COVID I suspect are very very slim. You are bascially saying that an asymptomatic CV carrier could spread via hayfever correct?

Cam77 · 25/04/2020 12:00

@hobnobsaremyfave
The scientific advice has changed a fair bit in the UK. The scientific advice varies from country to country. Please don't kid yourself there is this thing called "The Science" where this virus is concerned which all you need to do is follow it to the letter and all will be rosy. People need to look at the science (not "The Science") such as it is and make up their own minds about risks to themselves and the risk they may pose to others.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 25/04/2020 12:21

Cam I know the advice has changed and is changing and evolving constantly
What I'm saying is read widely from several scientific approved sources and base decisions that you make on the best currently available scientific advice
Not some goader in a chat forum

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 12:21

Yes Quartz. As things stand we don't know who has it and until there's widespread testing and tracing we have to behave as though we and everyone else are carriers.
Which means doing everything we can to avoid people. Not everyone can stay home all the time but I honestly believe that if you have someone else who can shop for you and you have a persistent cough or hayfever is causing you to sneeze frequently, it's safer for other people if you avoid being in public spaces.
There are some people who really cannot avoid going out, but this would protect them too. The country can't even test all the NHS staff at the moment, let alone the rest of us.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 12:23

It's not goading to have a different opinion to you hobnob. The purpose of a chat forum is to discuss, not mindlessly agree with people who have a vested interest in a specific pov.

PotholeParadise · 25/04/2020 12:35

MrsHunt publicly opining that the masses of people with pre-existing health issues that cause constant non-infectious coughs shouldn't be allowed out can be nothing else than provocative.

If you can't see why this is, imagine telling a woman to her face that her lung cancer sufferer dad should be locked up in his house for the sake of your peace of mind. Do you think she'd nod and smile or do you think she'd tell you to jog on?

Quartz2208 · 25/04/2020 12:49

so you want 20-30% of adults to simply not go out because there is a very small chance now that they are infected with CV and their allergy cough may well pass it on. And that is just the % with hayfever! Then the 15% of smokers who may have a smokers cough.

And you say you arent anxious about CV!

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 12:51

It's not for my peace of mind. It's so he doesn't spread CV if he is a carrier. That doesn't make me unsympathetic to his plight but his wishes don't override public health. Can he guarantee not being a carrier? If so, crack on.
Goady/provocative is starting a thread just to piss people off. It's not the same as stating a genuinely held opinion.
