If you have a cough, as innocuous as you might think it is! Why are you out? Just walked on my daily walk for about half an hour. 3 people walking past in safe distance all coughing 🤨 what the hell is wrong with people 😞

OP posts:
Disquieted1 · 25/04/2020 10:34

I don't care what you say OP. I've got audience tickets for Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and I'm going, cough or no cough.

WriteAndErase · 25/04/2020 10:34

I have an anxious cough. I mean I cough when I'm anxious which is not great in this current situation Confused

As soon as I walk into the supermarket or see someone walking towards me I cough and I can't help it. I'm not ill though so I'm not staying at home.

Sunnyhopefulness · 25/04/2020 10:34

Erm .... hay fever ??

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 10:37

Quartz I'm not particularly anxious, I don't think. Not more than anyone else, so far as I can tell. But I want this to stop and I think we all have to put public good above personal wants.

NHS staff ought to be being regularly tested and not in work if positive. Something else the govt has not handled at all well.

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/04/2020 10:38

I bet you wish you’d trained to be a scientific advisor to the government, with particular expertise in virus transmission now don’t you MrsHunt?

CookieBlue · 25/04/2020 10:43

I had suspected coronavirus 5 weeks ago and am still coughing. Had a telephone appointment with my GP the other day who said it’s perfectly normal, I would definitely NOT be contagious anymore and the cough itself can go on for 7/8 weeks! I’m still nervous to go out for even a quick walk for fear of being judged Blush

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 10:43

Driving, I doubt contacting my MP/Chris Whitty will change govt policy. Although I will anyway on the back of this thread since it is apparent that many people are just concerned with their own lives rather than the risk they may pose to others. I think the government will only instruct us to do what they can reasonably enforce and they balance what is necessary with what will be tolerated by the majority.

DominaShantotto · 25/04/2020 10:44

DD1 was so curious about how germs spread with coughing that she decided she'd culture some bacteria from her own cough the other day actually (she got a gross as hell science set for her birthday). We've concluded that DD1's sock is gross, DD2's ipad is bogging and DD1's cough actually isn't the harbinger of doom you'd think.

I now have to persuade them to get rid of the carefully cultivated bacteria. They're considering naming them.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 10:48

Driving, have I said anything which is scientifically incorrect? Happy to be corrected by an actual expert in virus transmission

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/04/2020 10:54

You know what, I never get riled by posters on the internet but I am making an exception here.

The government have explicitly said that there is no need to isolate for a cough unless it is new and continuous.
My GP told me that beyond the initial 14 days isolation period (should have been 7 but I self isolated for 14), there was no need for me to stay at home.
My ENT consultant told me last week, when he diagnosed my cough as a chronic condition (after a particularly scary urgent cancer referral), that I have absolutely no need to self isolate for my cough.

I follow all social distancing and hygiene guidance to the letter.
But apparently I only care about myself and no one else, according to MrsHunt on the internet, armchair virologist.

Anyway we’ll have to leave it there as I’m off out for my daily walk with my children.

Quartz2208 · 25/04/2020 10:54

But I want this to stop and I think we all have to put public good above personal wants.

We all want this but telling people with hayfever to stay in until September isnt part of that! Someone with hayfever is no more likely to spread it than you.

At the beginning of all of this the Gvt said you could exercise with symptoms! THat has now changed but it still is 7 days unless you have a temp you are allowed out with a cough

Greenpop21 · 25/04/2020 10:59

I have a tickly cough with my hayfever.

Greenpop21 · 25/04/2020 11:00

If I have to cough I turn away and cough into my elbow.

dontgobaconmyheart · 25/04/2020 11:01

Hayfever etc and non symptomatic or mild covid 19 are not mutually exclusive. Coughing or sneezing as a carrier will spread a virus even if that may not be the reason for the cough.

If you have any sort of cough or sneezing issue then yes you bloomin well should carefully consider where you walk and when, and wear a face covering out of the house when you go. The chronically ill and elderly are not able to get out and enjoy walks at all (often ever, not just for a few weeks during covid) so complaining about having to exercise differently or wear a covering or walk at quiet times if symptomatic in any way is a bit crass, just get on with it.

MigginsMs · 25/04/2020 11:03

But I want this to stop and I think we all have to put public good above personal wants.

But people going for a walk aren’t always just doing it for a personal want? I’m in the obese category so I know that on mumsnet I have the value of a scrape of shit on a shoe, but equally we are also always told how our size is a drain on the. NHS. So trying to reduce BMI by going out walking a few miles a day is actually for public health as well no?

MulticolourMophead · 25/04/2020 11:05

I have cough variant asthma and cough when I exert myself, which takes very little, or if the air is too cold or hot. I'm not staying indoors just to appease ignorant people like you.

I was due to have tests as it's suspected I have the same, tests postponed at the moment.

GetawayfromthatWelshtart · 25/04/2020 11:07

OMFG! do fuck off.

I have a cough due to sinus issues. I need to go to the shops as cannot get a delivery slot for love nor money.

I will go for my walk. I cough into a tissue and not in peoples faces.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 11:07

I would never judge you negatively because of your weight. Neither would I consider you a drain on NHS resources - it's for all of us and I won't make value judgements about who uses it.
You could exercise at home though. My dad could do with going for walks too, but he has had a quadruple bypass and is diabetic so he literally cannot leave the house.

Spidey66 · 25/04/2020 11:10

I have acid reflux which causes a cough, though usually at night, and is better when I'm on medication. It ain't covid though.

MigginsMs · 25/04/2020 11:12

I could but equally my method of exercise has always been walking - if I go for walks where I don’t see anyone why can’t I do that as long as I am not displaying CV symptoms, even if I may - and it’s only a may, I’m not sitting here spluttering away day and night - cough once or twice and take all necessary hygiene measures when I do?

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 11:13

Enjoy your walk Driving. Take a mask

MigginsMs · 25/04/2020 11:14

I suppose the thing is people might see me plodding around and how fat I am, have the occasional cough and don’t know I’ve always walked and before this did regular walks of between 6 and 10 miles. I’m just one of the fat slobs who didn’t care about my health before and am now risking killing everyone else now that I do.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 25/04/2020 11:16

Please guys
Take advice from scientists
And don't feel guilty for living your lives safely within the guidelines

Mumof1I · 25/04/2020 11:17

Many people who have had covid and have safely carried out their period of isolation will cough for many weeks. They are not infectious. Guidance is clear they are allowed out after their isolation and if feeling better. Even nhs staff are allowed back to work with cough aslong as isolation carried out, fever free for 48hrs. We will see and increase in well coughers I expect

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 25/04/2020 11:17

And do some reading and research by independent scientists about masks
Not online clueless keyboard warriors
