Found a phone in my garden - isolated property - shit scared

Name changed for this - Sorry if this seem trivial, I know people are dealing with far bigger things at the moment.

I found a phone lying on the ground, about 5 yards from my house.

We live in an isolated property about a mile away from the first road. We have not have any visitors , maintenance people for many weeks (obviously). Delivery drivers, yes, but they would not have any reason to go to this part of the garden/couldn't access it during daytime without us seeing something.
At first I assumed it belonged to one of us, but no! Confused
Phoned the police, have a ref./case number, etc. but they're busy and will get back to us when they can.
The police said to take the phone indoors and wait for their call/visit.

I am worried that the next visit is going to be from whomever the phone belongs to.
The phone is dead as a dodo but I assume it still can be found?

What should do?

@Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow I've really tried to explain, it is n o t feasible for someone to 'wander" there, you have to put some intent to get there.
Not my dog, nope. Back to the fox/bird theory.

And if you were using your phone as a torch, you would be able to find it when it falls, I would think. Did it come out of their pocket when the dog went out? I don't know.

Because I don’t want to hijack it. And it is exhausting to tell. I will come back soon - promise, if OP is OK with that but it’s not for now as I have to be inside working soon. Have a great day.

ScarredBunny · 25/04/2020 06:39

Why @AvalancheKit why?

PatricksRum · 25/04/2020 06:39

OP gave her blessing a while back. Look forward to hearing it later.

AvalancheKit · 25/04/2020 06:40

Oh, question OP. Which county do you live in and what is the nearest major road (not motorway or new dual carriageway)?

ScarredBunny · 25/04/2020 06:44

@AvalancheKit - why?

OP posts:
AvalancheKit · 25/04/2020 06:44

The county for the phone. The road for the hedgehogs.

1066vegan · 25/04/2020 06:47

@ScarredBunny Foxes definitely come close to houses. We're just in a semi in a small town and have foxes and badgers using the garden as a cut through.

They tend to run off if they spot someone watching them or hear a door opening but if they are regular visitors they can get used to you.

ScarredBunny · 25/04/2020 06:47

@Peridot1 what an experience to go through. It sounds as if it happened somewhere where people are pretty desperate.
I am concerned that people are going to become more desperate here too, if things carry on for too long, I mean it was already hard enough for some (too many).

Your husband (I doubt the DC) is very clever. The most likely explanation was it's his phone and he would know it, so his best chance to ensure you would dismiss any thought of that/ignore warnings from your social circle (and us saying "come on Bunny just google I found DH secret phone in X location!") was to suggest you call the police.

DH/ someone in your family has a lot to lose I think.

ScarredBunny · 25/04/2020 06:50

@AvalancheKit I spoke with a man, the other day who couldn't believe I was stupid enough not to give him access to my computer.

IncrediblySadToo · 25/04/2020 06:53

Very odd! I'd have been a bit scared too. But probably would have put it down to one of the (Uni age) DC's friends coming to visit in lockdown when they shouldn't?!

ScarredBunny · 25/04/2020 06:55

@Friendsofmine if that is the case i will know through the police then, right? They would say something like: 'there's nothing to worry about' or such like.

Because I don’t want to hijack it. And it is exhausting

You are getting closer to hijacking the thread with your attention-seeking and delaying tactics than if you’d just posted your story in the first place.

I’m another who wonders if you are quite alright.

ScarredBunny · 25/04/2020 06:59

@IncrediblySadToo - that is not even remotely possible.
1/ Why would any friends of my DCs be welcome here?
2/ Universities are abroad.
Or if you are thinking friends anyway, no local friends here, sadly.

Peridot1 · 25/04/2020 07:06

@ScarredBunny - it was in Budapest. Not necessarily desperate people - just your run of the mill criminals.

And I’m sure you won’t but I wouldn’t give away any possible identify location info on here. If AvalancheKit wants to tell her story she can. Not sure why she would need more information from you.

ScarredBunny · 25/04/2020 07:13

@IncrediblySadToo - sorry, I see lockdown of course. Even so, they're young adults, not teenagers.

A quick and easy camera to install is Blink XT2 from Amazon. Battery powered so really easy to install, just one screw, batteries last up to 2 years. £180 for a pack of two.

Will send an alert to your phone(s) when triggered and save a clip to the cloud which you can then view. In real time you can log on to the camera from anywhere (I'm 2,500 miles from mine) and it has 2-way sound so you can speak to anyone you can see. Works OK at night, mine picked up a badger in my semi-rural back garden a few weeks ago.

Also rather than leaving lights on (which reveal your location at night) look at floodlights with PIR sensors

ScarredBunny · 25/04/2020 07:26

@Peridot1 Budapest? I was thinking maybe South Africa, way off the mark. I didn't think Budapest was like that now.

I know, it's strange, why would she want to know the nearest road?

OP posts:
ScarredBunny · 25/04/2020 07:28

@Filka thank you very much that will probably save me hours of trawling!

OP posts:
ponchek · 25/04/2020 07:41

OP it really sounds like the way most likely is your DH or someone else left it/dropped/lost it there. And of course now can't own up.

Foxes find it hard to press the keys.

Mooserp · 25/04/2020 07:44

How close is the bridleway to your house?

Namechangex10000 · 25/04/2020 07:53

Honestly, I feel like my brain has broken reading the rest of this thread this morning - no idea what the hell is going on with avalanche but at the same time the op seems to have some understanding of what they’re saying and talking in riddles back! My head really really hurts

PatricksRum · 25/04/2020 07:58

@Namechangex10000 I thought it was just me. Baffled. Confused

TheTrollFairy · 25/04/2020 07:59

This would scare he crap out of me but I watch too many crime programs and read a lot of crime books!

Is this part of the house particularly vulnerable? Eg away from bedrooms with potentially easy access into the house? Or located to anything specific which has high value?
