As a nurse, To avoid the clapping

I find it terribly embarrassing.

I'm so proud of the NHS and the work my colleagues and I are doing.

I just find everyone on the street looking at me whilst clapping so cringe!

My SIL says I'm ungrateful and unspirited. Am I?

Oh the clapping, the first week was a really nice touch. But every fucking week now everyone gets out their pots and pans for a bang.

Help the NHS by outing this neoliberal fucking government who have the NHS on it's knees. They didn't follow up on the pandemic stress test 4 years ago because they moved all the strategists to brexit prep meaning the knew full well we were not prepared for this outbreak. There have been warnings for years that something of this magnitude would happen but austerity measures have left us vulnerable.

Why are you throwing sarcastic comments at her. Were you there to see who was just clapping and who was clapping at her. She was on her way home from saving lives she didn't just nip out in lockdown for a day out. She is saying she gets embarrassed what's wrong with that not everyone like all eyes and attention on them

Thing is, the clappers don't know you hate it.

I clap back to the clappers (I'm not NHS, but they know I'm a health keyworker), and shout 'and a big clap for the Co-Op and Spar!' But we are a small cul-de-sac, and so now everyone tends to give a 'shout out' too - 'clap for the posties!' 'and a clap for delivery drivers!' We also clapped the taxi-driver who lives here, so I'm not the only one who has been clapped.

There was a lovely moment when a young home-carer came away from a visit during the clapping, and we all clapped her - she was so happy - yes a bit embarrassed, but she shouted we'd made her day. These people don't get clapped, and they are also so important.

The clap is what you make it.
