To drink this frozen wine?

I popped a bottle of wine in the freezer last night as fancied some and had none immediately chilled... unfortunately DH was late home from work so by the time I’d made dinner etc etc it was late so decided not to have anything to drink.

Of course I forgot to get the bottle out of the freezer before going to bed!

By some miracle it has survived intact luckily so it is now out the freezer and sat in the fridge slowly de-frosting.

AIBU to drink this later tonight? Or will it be awful?

It’s a lovely French Sancerre rose if that makes any difference Grin

I would definitely drink it Grin

Inaquandry19 · 24/04/2020 11:27

Why on earth would you not drink it?!

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 24/04/2020 11:28

Taste it and see

cheeseycracker · 24/04/2020 11:29

I'd be sticking a straw in it and calling it frosé as we speak, crack on!

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 24/04/2020 11:30

Well it’s going to be a bit watery imo, what you’ve done is ruin wine you should be ashamed quite honestly

However would I still drink it, given the current times....Yes....Yes I would

whatnow40 · 24/04/2020 11:31

@cheeseycracker agree, suns out, get on it! Unless you're working from home and have a zoom call with your boss at 4pm. Who does that?!

pussycatinboots · 24/04/2020 11:32

I've drunk frozen Rose before now, didn't bother defrosting it too much, it was like alcoholic slush puppy Grin

If you don't want it, I could find a home for it Wink

When a bottle freezes, a couple things can happen. For one, the cork is likely to be pushed out as the wine expands; so if you don’t drink it right away, air can creep in through the cracks and oxidize the wine, turning it to vinegar over time. Oxidation can also occur with screw tops if the liquid reaches the rim and breaks its airtight seal. Freezing a bottle also separates the water from other components in the wine as it causes its tartrates (an organic chemical compound) to crystallize. It's possible freezing could slightly change the flavour of the wine – but only subtly – and it’s usually not anything most would notice.

So if you freeze a bottle, don't worry. It shouldn’t harm the wine’s flavour, but we certainly don’t recommend freezing wine on purpose. Unless you like wine slushies...

It won't be ruined - it will be fine!

Enjoy Wine

TaTuirseOrm · 24/04/2020 11:34

I'm sure it'll be fine, nice and cold anyway!
I had a bottle of red wine once that was too cold so I took off the foil and put it into the oven to warm up, I think I put the oven on at 80deg (can't remember exactly!) - Don't ask, I've no idea why I thought this would be a good idea!
Anyway, then forgot about the wine for a couple of hours and when I came back to it the cork had popped and wine spilled out. Luckily not all the bottle, I drank the rest 🍷😂

Oysterbabe · 24/04/2020 11:34

It will be absolutely fine.
Drink some while it's still a bit frozen. Wine slushy.

Freshfaced · 24/04/2020 11:35

Cheesycracker
Genius.

ShirleyPhallus · 24/04/2020 11:36

My absolute top tip for going camping is to buy a box of rose wine, remove the baggy from the inside, freeze it.

Then when you leave for camping, take it out and put it in the car. By the time you arrive and have pitched, it has defrosted slightly to an amazing slushy frose and then stays cold the rest of the evening.

I am pretty sure the alcohol comes out first so make sure to squish it with your hands a bit to make sure that doesn’t happen but otherwise it’s bloody delightful

JigsawsAreInPieces · 24/04/2020 11:36

Well as its rosé there's not a lot you can do to make it any worse than it already is! Grin

Lightsabre · 24/04/2020 11:36

@cheeseycracker - frose - love it!

fishonabicycle · 24/04/2020 11:41

I've drunk frozen wine. Tasted fine to me!

Lightofthephoenix · 24/04/2020 11:44

Wine slushy Grin

You're just going to have to suck it and see.

You would be very unreasonable to throw it out preemptively!

VanWinkle13 · 24/04/2020 11:53

Instantly love @cheeseycracker

CoraPirbright · 24/04/2020 11:55

I’ve done that before Blush. Tried the wine once defrosted but it had gone weirdly sweet....

Doobedoobedoobe · 24/04/2020 12:46

@cheeseycracker I would but I’m having to be a responsible parent until DH gets home from work...

@JigsawsAreInPieces Rose is lovely if you find the right one. I’d never lower myself to drinking any of that Barefoot or Echo Falls rubbish- now that’s what I’d call shite rose. But a beautifully crafted French rose (preferably a Sancere or Chinon) on a hot summers eve is just delicious (and yes I’m aware I sound like a pretentious nob Grin)

I’ve done it before, tasted fine. Let us know how you get on OP.

Lightsabre · 24/04/2020 13:20

A crisp Provence Rose is my absolute favourite.

Toiletrollbuyer · 24/04/2020 17:37

@ShirleyPhallus you are a genius. I’m going to do this every time we go now and pretend to DH that it was my idea 😂
