To ask where's nicer to live! (Alton or Petersfield)

Where would you prefer to live? We want somewhere nice with good schools and things to do.. A good place for kids/families as well as nice pubs and restaurants etc. I know Petersfield is more expensive and has good transport links and A3 however we work from home so we don't need the train train line.

The main thing for us is nice decent people but friendly and down to earth (not stuck up on the one hand or too chavy on the other ha ha!!) and things to do! I know every town has good and bad areas but overall which do you prefer and why?

Overall i think i prefer Petersfield for things to do/lovely market town but Alton i'm told is more friendly and down to earth? Although the town doesnt seem as nice.

Hoping to have another child so want a nice family town.

I can't speak for Alton but Petersfield is lovely. Friendly, great market town. Has a strong infrastructure. It's pricey and you might want to consider other villages on the fringe to get a bit more for your money. Clanfield, Horndean, Catherington, Rowlands Castle etc. Schools are great in all of these. All along the A3 and to be only 10 miles from a beach whilst living on the Southdowns is the best of both worlds. Good luck with your decision!
