This isn’t a “am a allowed” but more - what you do? Dh and I bought a sports type car with a soft top in February
So my question it’s a convertible and while I know in theory I wouldn’t. Be breaking rules to habe the too down - fear that if I do - I will end up on a local Facebook page or similar
So aibu to put the top down

@Icanflyhigh they exist solely to prove money cannot buy (or lease..) taste!

OhTheRoses · 24/04/2020 23:28

If it's raining and you drive fast enough with the roof down you don't get wet. It's all to do with the height of the front windscreen and the extent to which it acts as a separator between the laminar and turbulent airflows. It's rather thrilling. Other people look at you as though you are nuts but actually you are as dry as a bone. It's fine if the roof mechanism is efficient if you have to slow down.

negomi90 · 24/04/2020 23:32

I am a key worker, I live in one coastal town and work in another. I have a very old convertable.
You bet that I have been communting along the coast road with my roof down and music blaring.
No guilt whatsoever.
You use that convertable for your essential journeys and keep that roof down!

OhTheRoses · 24/04/2020 23:32

@SquirtleSquad @Icanflyhigh. The point is pleasure and a bit of fun.

Icanflyhigh · 24/04/2020 23:41

@OhTheRoses - I get the point of convertibles, I've got two!
But not a range rover convertible- they're just hideous and pointless!

OhTheRoses · 24/04/2020 23:49

Many apologies. I missed the Range Rover bit. Yes, I agree, misses the point entirely.

A convertible is about fun. 100% fun. and DH's midlife crisis - thankfully passed but we're keeping the car :)

OhTheRoses · 24/04/2020 23:51

Actually I'm a middle aged gimmer and very occasionally I take it to Sainsburys (for a little shop). It's quite entertaining when some crotchetty old geezer clocks the car I'm getting into.

do bore off @PhoneLock, be a dear.

if you are stuck in six months time with all the other queuing for your MOT at the three garages who managed to survive I am sure you wont moan in the least.. 8)

The postponement is essentially in place for keyworkers/distribution networks who might be finding it difficult to obtain an MOT and who cannot get booked in anywhere.

It's not really a six month freebie for all and sundry so if you can and have a place to go then why wouldn't you get it sorted as usual, and maybe keep a local business from going to the wall??

beebeedandelion · 25/04/2020 09:12

Ignore the judgemental idiots and enjoy it, it's no different to having the windows open.

Carolduckingbaskin · 25/04/2020 12:49

@drcb83 see that’s what I’m worried out - the pointed looks!
@Icanflyhigh lol it’s not the Range Rover one but I actually quite like them Blush.

@Carolduckingbaskin we have an MX5 from the 90s which is awesome and a new shaped beetle convertible, we get all the looks when we go put as I'm 40 plus with bright blue hair and DP has a huge mohican!!😂😂
Let them look I say!!

Kenworthington · 26/04/2020 10:11

Oh man the best thing is having the roof down in the sunshine and music blaring. I love love love my convertible. Too bloody right I’m going to enjoy it, even if it is just a trip to the supermarket!

OhTheRoses · 26/04/2020 10:49

For me, a convertible sports car has to be a convertible sports car along the lines of the MGB and midget, Alpha Romeo Spider, Triumph Spitfire and then the MX5 came along and saved the day. The old convertible golf just didn't do it.

YeahWhatevver · 26/04/2020 10:51

There's not a ban on enjoying yourself

Though from a lot of the pious curtain twitching posts on social media you'd think it was the #1 rule of lockdown

Yankathebear · 26/04/2020 10:56

@OhTheRoses love the Alfa spider!

I really look forward to the drive home after my shift. It feels like I’m blowing away the stress from the day. I get home feeling windswept but alive.

OhTheRoses · 26/04/2020 22:57

When this shit show of lock down is over I am so looking forward to driving just a tad too fast along the coast road on the cote vermilion with the wind in my hair just sniffing at the Pyrenees.

Meanwhile I'll nudge 42mph on the Reigate Road Grin
