It's a clap one!

I like the weekly clap. I really do, it's nice, everyone coming out of their house and cheering and having a little wave over the road. Community spirit and all that.
But a woman in our village has appointed herself in charge of competitive clapping, and is filming a different street each week in the name of WHO IS THE BEST AT CLAPPING.
AIBU to feel slightly disgruntled at this, and not want to be filmed in my pyjamas or have the loudness of my clap judged?

YANBU, she is clearly bored! Don't be her performing seal. Just do what you want to.

Curiosity101 · 23/04/2020 20:37

I wouldn't be keen on this either. It feels like its not really in the spirit of it to me. You're clapping to show support - no one is being more or less supportive depending on the rating of their clapping Grin

Assuming positive intent though - perhaps she's hoping to motivate more people to come out and show their support Smile

You are definitely not being unreasonable! It shouldn't be a competition! I guess it makes it fun in some ways making it a competition but were all doing our bit to appreciate the nhs I mean if I was being filmed doing the clap I'd look very crazy in my Donald Duck pjs😂

There are some absolute barmpots around during this lockdown! She sounds like one of them.It does keep me endlessly entertained,so I am not complaining about them.

Windyatthebeach · 23/04/2020 20:39

Practice doing it like a sealion op..

whiskybysidedoor · 23/04/2020 20:45

We have clap monitors too. They are comprised of:-

One who thinks no one has noticed they’ve stopped picking up their multiple large dogs poo, but keeps posting on Facebook how much they love their village and it’s people.

One who got called out on the Facebook page early on for flouting the rules (quite magnificently).

One who is a part time nurse and is telling everyone off all the time really aggressively, reminds you everyday that they are a nurse and seems to be enjoying the soapbox a little too much.

I realise now I am not cut out for village life. I want to go back to being a nice person again not this simmering pile of resentment.

Sexnotgender · 23/04/2020 20:50

That sort of shit would make me stop going out to clap.

Ponoka7 · 23/04/2020 20:51

I'd be tempted to ask her why everything has to be a competition and can't you just be left to spread positive energy, without thinking anyone is better than anyone else.

This why I am not allowed a taser !

Competitive clapping on our local fb page too.
Eg
Main Street, we were awesome.
Church Street, we were extra awesome
School Lane, we were extra extra awesome
And so on.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 23/04/2020 21:13

So glad that my house, like so many others in our village, is set so far back from the road that no one would even know if we were out there clapping!

Beachcomber74 · 23/04/2020 21:14

We went out for first time tonight I had totally forgotten about it!
Try and put your back to the camera?!

JudyCoolibar · 23/04/2020 21:24

Point out to her that she is only meant to be going out for exercise, and stopping to take photographs of people in other streets isn't exercise.
