Happy for everyone to clap etc but fireworks?!!!

OP posts:
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/04/2020 20:19

Some twat let off fireworks here and my poor cat came flying in through the cat flap.

Clap if you really have to, but there's no need to let off fireworks or Chinese lanterns.

Floridasunset · 23/04/2020 20:19

Might not be rocket science but mine go to bed at 6. I'm hardly going to keep them up an extra 2 hours

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 23/04/2020 20:20

Oooh saying that someone has posted about it again and is getting much more support then last week. Less 'stop being boring' and more ' I agree' hmm

Yugi · 23/04/2020 20:22

I don’t mind the ship horns and the cats ignore them, they are used to it. I know it drives my friends with small children a bit mad. I only heard one firework.

It’s a bit of a timer here, when the horns stop everyone tends to stop and go back inside, so it doesn’t drag on for ages. It’s chilly out on my balcony.

PeachesAndPops · 23/04/2020 20:23

Clapping is one thing, letting off fireworks is something else entirely! Wasn’t even done safely, and there are lambs just 20 meters away.

cardibach · 23/04/2020 20:27

I haven’t been a regular clapper because I see it as pointless virtue signalling in most cases. I went out last week. Is as(reluctantly) going to this week but they started early so I didn’t. From what I could see there were fewer people but now they all had pots and pans (that’s not clapping) and someone had some sort of horn which went in for ages. Fuck off! It’s disturbing people and totally pointless.

RibenaMonsoon · 23/04/2020 20:27

DD is 10 months and teething really badly. 4 coming in at once bless her. Just managed to finally get her to sleep and the clapping starts....then the pans....then the fireworks.

I think it's a lovely gesture but fireworks are a bit inconsiderate. My neighbour is NHS and she works weird hours. We don't particularly have a massive liking for each other but that's another reason why I'm not out there clapping. If she's sleeping and it wakes her up she will probably be as pissed off as DD is.

mmmmmchocolate · 23/04/2020 20:28

Dcat has shit himself every week since week 2. I poked my head out clapped and went straight to check he was ok after running headfirst at a glass door... he’s still a bit spooked now and it’s 30 minutes later.

HeIenaDove · 23/04/2020 20:29

Surely it would be a much better idea to put statements out about the dangers of fireworks and sky lanterns. Rather than shopping trolleys.

Klonda · 23/04/2020 20:32

As pointed out by a PP, fireworks put extra pressure on the NHS

1Morewineplease · 23/04/2020 20:36

No.. I don’t get the fireworks.
I don’t get the pan banging either... is that to virtue signal more loudly than someone who is just hand clapping?
Have heard many an NHS worker say ‘thank you but please stop.’
Fireworks are horrific... I speak as someone scarred from a stray firework at a registered public display.
Don’t do fireworks and protect the NHS.

yukka · 23/04/2020 20:48

For the love of god, please stop waking the baby...🤦‍♀️👏👏 🍳🍳💥💥

skiclothes · 23/04/2020 20:55

Our neighbours have added a karaoke machine this week. They are still out the front (with other neighbours) having a singsong.
So to all those saying to put children to bed after the two minutes clap, I would if it actually lasted two minutes.

GlomOfNit · 23/04/2020 21:01

I think if there were one twat locally who was consistently letting off fireworks at 8pm on Thursdays I'd be making a complaint to the local authorities. It's not what people have been asked to do, it's just Lookatmeism. Blatant attention seeking.

Thank feck I live in a little village on a quiet road where a few of us were out, clapping awkwardly in an English way the first week, and no bugger has done it ever since. Grin

Frompcat · 23/04/2020 21:01

And horn honking here too. Fucking ridiculous.

Wtfdidwedo · 23/04/2020 21:08

Yep there's singing here too, in the street, with fucking loud microphones. And some idiot on my Facebook had the audacity to film someone telling them to keep the noise down in an attempt to shame them. My preschoolers both go to sleep at 6.30 so luckily they're normally fast asleep by the time 8pm comes around. It's all massively unnecessary.

MoonlightMistletoe · 23/04/2020 21:19

@babychange12 Congratulations on your newborn! My youngest is only one and a nightmare getting settled for bed so I do sympathise.

skiclothes · 23/04/2020 21:22

Karaoke machine is still going here...

TabbyStar · 23/04/2020 21:22

We have a parade of lorries with flashing lights and beeping horns. People on the local FB page seem to think it's fantastic, whereas I'm pulling the cat's bum face and wondering how it's an essential journey!

user1494055864 · 23/04/2020 21:33

I'm actually feeling really embarrassed, my local village Facebook page has several people boasting that their street was the loudest, they are literally arguing over who made the most noise.

Someone moaned that their bit of street was quieter than last week, then there is the moaning about fireworks, people saying their hands are sore from clapping, and shock horror, people were 'closing windows because of the noise' (or maybe just because its getting dark?)
Last week someone posted a photo of their wooden spoon which had broken when they were bashing their saucepan!
Honestly, it's just so cringey. Blush
Anyone else have a ridiculous local Facebook page like this?

Wtfdidwedo · 23/04/2020 21:51

Stalking local Facebook pages to read absolutely mad shit is my new hobby at the moment.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 23/04/2020 21:53

Yeahhhh it's starting to. Someone posted they cant believe people dont do come and clap...

The reason for it seems to be getting lost. It's more about how loud people can be now..someone just posted on how they've been playing we are the champions..how does that relate?!

Dragonglass · 23/04/2020 21:55

Someone set of a loud alarm like a car alarm here.

skiclothes · 23/04/2020 22:13

Karaoke machine still going...
Neighbours are now all sat together, social distancing seems to have gone out of the window completely!
