to be irrationally annoyed with the furloughed?

I know I am but I'm jealous that they have all day to lie in the sun, home educate their dc, bake, sew, watch TV whilst I'm busier than ever trying to do it all whilst working from home.
I heard on the radio it's going to cost £50 billion over 3 months and I feel annoyed that the economy is totally f**d because we're paying everyone's salaries, and they're at home doing nothing.
I also know none of this is anyone's fault and IABU.

Sorry I have been incredibly insensitive and I do feel terrible now. Some of your replies have really got to me. I genuinely apologise to everyone I’ve offended and pray we’ll all come out of this mess intactFlowers

@thecatsthecats no, not unique. But still really fucking difficult. I've got a few people on my team who I thought were pretty unbreakable struggling with wfh and small children.

I'm pleased to see that you've been flexible to accommodate your employees though, especially the ones with children. Noone is set up for this at all.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 24/04/2020 10:36

awaywiththecircus

I, for one, accept your apology. It's weird and stressful times for everyone. Flowers

cybercontroller · 24/04/2020 10:44

@xenia

Yeah, it really is terrible that big fancy island-owning lawers like yourself have to pay taxes that help disgusting fat people.

Hopefully when flights start back up you'll fuck off to America or somewhere.

Unworthie · 24/04/2020 10:49

@awaywiththecircus

Thank you.
It's an unprecedented situation that none of us have had any choice over. My future is just....... Not there because I can't even plan short term for anything.
My sister is on covid wards ATM and my brother in retail. I do understand the fear and worry attached to working through these times. And I thank you for getting past that and continuing to do what you do.
It is appreciated.
I don't moan about being bored, but I'm also not enjoying this situation one bit either.

Notverybright · 24/04/2020 11:00

Hope things get less stressful for you awaywiththecircus. Cake

Notverybright · 24/04/2020 11:01

^^ genuine no sarcastic message. In case that wasn't clear.

Tattoocrazymum · 24/04/2020 11:05

Its those who are furloughed that should be jealous of those in a stable job with a full income.
My partner has been furloughed, losing £300 a months (almost 3 weeks rent money for us) thats alot of money to lose for us, and were worrying if he will have a job to go back to... he would rather be at work with his full income

wonderstuff · 24/04/2020 11:05

What's the alternative? Would you rather mass unemployment? My husband can not do his job due to the current restrictions, he has no idea when or if he'll be able to return, its grim, he's very down about it. But thank goodness for the scheme because otherwise he'd be unemployed.

Mirrorxx · 24/04/2020 11:11

@badboss2020 you really need to report this to Hmrc. Tax payers should not being paying for your wages if you are still working

maybelou · 24/04/2020 11:21

Not sure why everyone thinks not being furloughed means your job is safe - it isn't. Nobody's job is safe right now.

I get that nobody's situation is ideal but I know what you mean OP - I catch myself thinking sometimes how nice it would be to not have to work at the moment! If it was me I'd be having a nice lie in, watching Netflix, making paintings, carrying on with learning piano, writing - spending some time doing my hobbies rather than spending so many hours stressing over work at my kitchen table.

I know it's not easy for those furloughed, but just as those people are wishing they were WFH, it does work both ways! Everyone's in a shitty situation here 💕

FoxyBadger · 24/04/2020 11:23

@awaywiththecircus Thank you.
Hopefully others will also appreciate how those of us on furlough and with a very uncertain future feel.

GingerRodgers18 · 24/04/2020 11:31

I’m not jealous no, I’m so thankful people are being furloughed rather than losing their jobs. However what is annoying me is this misconception that you’re either a key worker out there on the front line or that you’ve been furloughed. Not much is mentioned about those of us who are keeping the economy going by still trying to hold down full time jobs from home whilst also providing full time childcare.

We’re the same OP working harder than ever, across 7 days and on a night to make it work and still feeling like we’re neglecting our toddler.
Plus shopping for parents and grandparents and dropping that off.

I am exhausted and fed up. I know it’s got to be this way but I think we’re allowed to be exhausted and to think some recognition would be nice.

luckylavender · 24/04/2020 11:34

I can't believe some of the responses on here. I won't counter them, but I just like to say - thank you to so many people who have made us furloughed feel even more shit, useless & worried than we were before. Seriously, thanks.

Springersrock · 24/04/2020 11:41

Yes, my DH is still working. He runs his own business, he’s not an essential worker but he does provide items to essential businesses (including the NHS)

He’s busy, our daughter has gone in with him today to get her out of the house for a bit and to help out as she is bored silly and her mental health has gone to hell. She was supposed to be taking her A levels this summer and is missing her friends and school and doesn’t even have any school work to keep her occupied

Ragwort · 24/04/2020 11:50

Agree Springer there are lots of people still working who are not key workers or supplying ‘essential services’. Most businesses will be trying to keep going for the sake of the economy. My DH is still working (from home & with a pay cut), it’s not ‘essential’ work but surely it is essential to keep as many companies going as possible ... it’s very easy to say that “lives are more important than the economy” but do we want to end up with massive unemployment?

awaywiththecircus · 24/04/2020 11:51

Really tough for the dc who we’re supposed to be doing exams. They have lost so much I really feel for them and their parents who must be worrying.

OP posts:
IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 24/04/2020 12:03

It’s a great feeling for us isn’t it luckylavender Hmm

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 24/04/2020 12:06

Surely this is a great opportunity to be productive and get loads of stuff done

I’ve sorted the paperwork, tidied the house and organised the cupboards.

Anything else I want to do requires items that I can’t buy because the shops are shut or need to be delivered which doesn’t seem fair and even if I could get them, I only have 80% of my wages coming in so can’t afford them.

That’s before taking into account how stressful this is and I’m spending all my time worried and stressed and have very little brain space left for motivation to do it all.

MarshaBradyo · 24/04/2020 12:07

I can’t go get another job as that was part of the furlough agreement.

Mama is that part of your individual company stipulation? I think I’m general people can. Did they add it?

Seems crazy to stop people earning. Who knows what’s coming up.

Aridane · 24/04/2020 12:10

I haven't been furloughed but two out of my team of four have. Myself and the other person have taken on our colleagues workload.

And we've both been asked to take a 30% pay cut.

So our two colleagues are at home with their children with no work to worry about on 80% of their salaries and me and my other colleagues are doing much increased workloads for 70% of ours.

WTAF?

The worst of all possible works

MarshaBradyo · 24/04/2020 12:11

I’m not furloughed but I imagine it’s a bit like when you finish one job and you can’t really enjoy it until you have the next one secured.

Bringringbring12 · 24/04/2020 12:15

I don’t blame you on the slightest.
I’ve been furloughed

And it’s bloody lovely!!

MarshaBradyo · 24/04/2020 12:15

In terms of cost to economy I’d be interesting in hearing more about business interruption loans backed by government. The amounts must be incredibly high but I can’t get information on how easily companies are getting them.

Bringringbring12 · 24/04/2020 12:18

* thank you to so many people who have made us furloughed feel even more shit, useless & worried than we were before. Seriously, thanks.*

Don’t let them get to you.
Friday, beautiful sun, I’m chilling out in the garden having set the children up with school work at a leisurely pace and an hour’s yoga. How different this morning would have been I’d I wasn’t furloughed!
