Dh has just walked to a local house and bought some roller skates for ds. (bagged at the gate and dh hung sandwich bag of cash on the gate) via Gumtree..
The poor kid didn't even know they were selling them!!
Dh felt shit taking them!!
Did you have to get rid of favourites/outgrown toys that you wanted to keep as a dc?
I can't remember my toys going...
Strange as remember getting special ones like a pram and a bike!

No everything went into the attic and now my son plays with them! I remember doing a lot of charity bags through my own choice as I got older though!

I can remember realising things were missing and mum had got rid. Once saw something of mine at a cousins and said oh I have one of those too, it's my favourite! Yeah it was mine.

I remember my mum encouraging me to have clear outs. Nothing ever just disappeared once I was old enough to be involved (definitely by the time I started school) I remember ongoing discussions about if I really needed the 5ft cuddly whale that I'm pretty sure my aunt gleefully unloaded out of her house and my cousin's bedroom when I took a liking to it. It took months before I agreed to bin it and that was only because it started leaking little polystyrene balls everywhere.

I hope to be the same, at the moment my son is 3 and I still remove things he doesn't play with every now and then, I hope to begin to involve him within the year though.

Toys are our first experiences of ownership, they belong to the child and personally I think that should be respected. Kids can't always have much say in what happens but they should have a say in what happens to their own things!
