Can someone help me find out what tree this is?

This tree has a gorgeous really unusual pale mint green leaf. I’ve never seen the likes of it anywhere else. I’d love to put one of these in my garden, but there’s likely no point asking the people in the house as it’s a mature tree in a house that’s been sold recently, so the new owners will probably be as clueless as I am. Can anyone help me identify this tree?

Hi, you didn't say if you were in the UK but the woodland trust have an app that may help www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/trees-woods-and-wildlife/british-trees/tree-id-app/

Have you seen the bird on your second photo? Looks tiny against one of the leaves (it's just to the left of centre).

LouiseCollina · 23/04/2020 03:58

Thank you, I’ll try that. And I don’t think that’s a bird, I think it’s a wizened looking leaf in the shape of a bird, but God bless your eyesight! Smile

Looks a bit like a loquat? I have seen them growing in gardens in London before.

They look like beech tree leaves to me, start looking at pictures of those. It's hard to say without seeing the trunk/whole thing.

LouiseCollina · 23/04/2020 04:18

Here’s a pic of the whole tree. No it’s not a beech. I will google Loquat. Thank you both.

Still think it's a bird - it has an eye and everything 😀

Although I can see what I thought was a beak is probably the tip of the leaf behind... specsavers 😒

LouiseCollina · 23/04/2020 04:31

It also has something extending from its head connecting it to the tree! Grin

Must be a special branch of bird

Common whitebeam.

joystir59 · 23/04/2020 05:04

They don't look like whitebeam leaves to me

puds11 · 23/04/2020 05:13

This is newly open whitebeam, looks the same to me 🤷‍♀️

Beekeeper1 · 23/04/2020 05:20

@puds11 is correct - it is Whitebeam

LouiseCollina · 23/04/2020 05:47

I really didn’t think I’d get the answer that quick, or maybe at all. Thanks so much @puds11!
