To think “fuck it” to home schooling after this?

So we do ds2’s, year 7, maths homeschooling, ds2 is quite able, so he gets most of the questions right ( they mark themselves) but we had some stress trying to get a couple of questions to match the answers provided by the teacher as one answer was blatantly wrong and another question we aren’t sure about either because it was stuff he said he hadn’t covered yet. Even so, he gave it a go but couldnt match the answer given. Turns out that answer given by the teacher was wrong and ds2 actually been right all along.

Other maths questions are apparently a recap on work already done before lockdown but ds2 claims “but we havent’t done this”, me being a maths bod try to explain it to him, much frustration on both sides as unknown to me at the time some of it’s a totally new concept for him.

Later (ie after the work was due in) we get an email from teacher, admitting errors in answers, and explaining later questions are actually year8 stuff that they haven’t covered yet in year7 and with explanations how to do it.

Wtf, if they are giving questions from year8 to year7 students, how about a bit of warning beforehand before parents get superstressed. Maths is my thing anyway so trying to explain concepts you think your child should already know (Because the teachers say it’s a feckin recap)is doable, but not everyone is a maths bod. Some parents might ace the english or art homework instead, mine don’t stand a chance 😂

Lots of unnecessary stress and upset could’ve been avoided for everyone.

Well that’ll teach me to,post on mumsnet when I’m drunk.

“And why query it to MN at 2.30 am?”

Because the whole day had been shit and I was having a drunken blowout.

Sorry to all the teachers I upset, 💐it wasn’t meant to be a teacher bashing thread, but I can see how it come across like that. I know the teachers are doing a difficult job, this whole thing is difficult for all of us and I was venting frustration at the stress caused (straw that broke the camels back) rather the actual teacher.

Cringing at “maths bod” I must’ve been drunker than i thought 😆

Of course I’m not really going to stop, so people can stop worrying about my poor uneducated dc.

You can't compare this teacher's mistake to medical staff. Ffs, how thick can you get?
You're massively overreacting OP. I'm sure the teacher has apologised, it's hardly the end of the world.

Piggywaspushed · 23/04/2020 10:45

I have come across you on other threads and know you are normally very lovely.

It's a stressful time.
I would offer Wine but maybe Brew is better.

tootiredtoconga · 23/04/2020 10:46

However I am fairly sure with enough time I can teach them myself without the multiple daily emailed teachers orders (will the teachers be doing a tiktock dance in their car parks next week??)

If you think the input of your DS's Teachers so worthless then presumably you'll be keeping him off and continuing to home-educate long term once this is all over?

Piggywaspushed · 23/04/2020 10:47

You can see you were unreasonable now! What is worrying is 26% of people think you were being perfectly reasonable Grin Grin

CayrolBaaaskin · 23/04/2020 10:47

A thread that criticises teachers! Oh my can’t have that. Teachers are beyond reproach don’t you know.

tootiredtoconga · 23/04/2020 10:49

Cross post, just seen your update.
To be fair it's hard to distinguish a pissed up 2.30am rant from the normal teacher bashing threads on MN, especially since schools closed.

CarrieBlue · 23/04/2020 10:50

@Rosebel - it wasn’t a comment that you made, it was a goady nonsense question.

Have some Flowers and go and contemplate how ridiculous the comparison you are trying to make is. A mistake on a maths paper and a mistake by a doctor are not really the same level are they?

Justgivemewine · 23/04/2020 10:57

Thank you @Piggywaspushed.

I’ll take that Brew (and a couple of headache tablets too)

OP posts:
FrippEnos · 23/04/2020 11:11

Rosebel

Are you really gong to try and push this as a valid point?

cheesecurdsandgravy · 23/04/2020 11:12

Thanks OP for coming back. This is the mark of a real, normal, honest (dare I say... mistake making?!) person. Rather than the GF these threads are often started by.

I suggest your DC does lots of PE today. In the garden. Quietly. Grin Brew

WhyCantIthinkOfAgoodOne · 23/04/2020 11:37

@Justgivemewine

fair play OP!

sauvignonblancplz · 23/04/2020 11:38

OP what a hero. We all have our bad days . Take it easy today Cake

WhyCantIthinkOfAgoodOne · 23/04/2020 11:38

(Just to clarify I wasn't being sarcastic it takes guts to come back to a thread and apologise).

MsTSwift · 23/04/2020 11:41

We all make mistakes

We pay good money for maths tutors for both our girls - our mental health requires it worth every penny!

WhyCantIthinkOfAgoodOne · 23/04/2020 11:41

Also I know this was only somewhat mentioned by OP and I'm not having a go at her but for anyone who's kid is racing through their maths and getting bored the maths challenge is a brilliant thing to get them to do and if they want to continue with maths or related subjects long term will be of benefit to them. It's not meant to be syllabus maths it's meant to be mathematical reasoning and logic which are skills which aren't particularly developed in the UK maths syllabus.

CarrieBlue · 23/04/2020 11:45

Thanks for coming back OP - hope the head isn’t too sore today Brew

PerplexingWords · 23/04/2020 11:48

But thanks for coming back too.

luckylavender · 23/04/2020 11:49

Another teacher bashing thread. Try being a teacher now.

Justgivemewine · 23/04/2020 11:51

I’ve asked for the thread to be removed as I’ve upset a lot of people and that was never my intention.

Thanks to everyone who posted kind works and constructive advice for helping me and the dc to remain sane while doing their work. I’ve made notes and taken it on board.

💐💐for all the teachers

MarieQueenofScots · 23/04/2020 11:53

Some awkward not reading of the full thread going on.....

Grin
LolaSmiles · 23/04/2020 11:55

Fair play to you OP.
Hope you're feeling a bit better today.
BrewSmile

SallyLovesCheese · 23/04/2020 12:06

No my comment is true. Is it fine for the medical professional to mess up? Or is it only teachers who are exempt from any blame?

Clearly rosebel lives in a perfect works where no-one ever messes up at work! Grin

@Justgivemewine - ah, thank you for coming back and being so lovely! We're all just trying to do our best in this crazy situation. Agree with today being an outdoor PE day - give him a picnic lunch, too Grin Brew

recrudescence · 23/04/2020 12:26

A thread that criticises teachers! Oh my can’t have that. Teachers are beyond reproach don’t you know.

You must be new here. Mumsnet specialises in denigrating teachers.
