Please tweet #nopubnorent to @starpubsandbars. They work through Heinekin a brand I’m sure you have all heard of. Have made billions in profit from their U.K pubs but have taken all our grant we received to pay our staff for rent. I have a teeny pub in a tourist town we are on our knees now paying staff out our own pockets not taking a wage ourself. Would hugely appreciate anyone who would raise awareness.
Long term Mumsnetter just hoping for some support please don’t flame me

Done

Ginkypig · 23/04/2020 01:13

That's terrible!

I'm sorry I am not on twitter but wanted to reply to give this a bump.

I assume you are not allowed to apply independently and have to do it through them as you are a franchise but they have shared any of it for you to pay your staff? Is that what's happened?

If they have applied to cover all their businesses then that includes your pub so what are they doing with the money as surely if they can't keep it as they have to account for where it's going?

Barmaid101 · 23/04/2020 01:17

Not on twitter but punch taverns are just as bad! If this goes on too long we will prob have to close for good!
There are going to be many empty pubs around the country that don’t open after this.

Ginkypig · 23/04/2020 01:30

Sorry that should have said have not shared.

Passthebubbly · 23/04/2020 01:42

Yes punch are worse from what I here. No they went from saying all rent suspended whilst closure to wanting 50% rent backdated to closure date when grant was announced. They full grant no way covers all of the amount over £10 grand short. We are topping our staff up to 100% wage for now but that is coming out our savings. Awareness is fantastic thank you

I'm just coming back to bump it for you.

Are you able to apply for the 80% grant for your staff yourself, that would take a lot of the pressure of you as then you can focus on the available grants and loans for the business itself. Or are you tied to them doing it on your behalf and getting a share of it?

Passthebubbly · 23/04/2020 13:26

We have applied for the grant sadly the amount our brewers are taking exceeds the grant

I tweeted the hashtag to them Passthebubbly They haven't tweeted for a couple of days though, so don't know if they're monitoring their account very closely.
