AIBU to report a gathering of about 10 youths to the police

I have just seen a group of about ten youths congregating around a car very obviously socialising, there doesn't seem to be any proper social distancing going on? Should I call the police, I also got a whiff of weed.

OP posts:

no.

WorraLiberty · 22/04/2020 17:36

There must be at least 3 "Shall I call the police?" threads per day on MN, or probably more actually.

Do it or don't. I don't understand why people can't make up their own minds about this sort of thing.

Fantasiaa · 22/04/2020 17:36

Youths ?

araiwa · 22/04/2020 17:38

Ffs

SushiGo · 22/04/2020 17:42

I would, police are using this as on opportunity to crack down on county lines gangs and this might be a good opportunity for them.

It's a lot more useful than some of the other shite people want to report!

Sargass0 · 22/04/2020 17:43

Yes if you think it will make it all better

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 22/04/2020 17:44

You can do it online. Our police are finding it much easier to get dealers since lockdown

BogRollBOGOF · 22/04/2020 17:50

Big group. Probably doing something illegal under normal circumstances. Far more worthy of notifying the police than most of the tittle tattle being queried.

randomguy12 · 22/04/2020 17:51

It’s none of your business. What happens if they find out you reported them?

LesLavandes · 22/04/2020 17:51

You don't have to ask. Do it!

ludothedog · 22/04/2020 17:53

No I wouldn't.

TheWashingMachine · 22/04/2020 20:31

I contacted them they said it was a big problem round here, we are London Zone 2, and anti social behaviour is on the rise at present.

I subsequently heard a woman was attacked while jogging nearby by a large gang of young men, so I'm glad the police came.

Why can't people make up their own minds to report or not? Surely its not another thread designed to be goady?

Greenmarmalade · 22/04/2020 20:34

No! Leave them alone.

LagunaBubbles · 22/04/2020 20:35

Its everyone's business about saving lives.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/04/2020 20:40

Youths ?

Yes. Other people's children, especially if they're black = youths. See also; gangs of youths.

My children, especially if white = young people, teenagers or even older children. Never in gangs. Probably 'friend group'.

I used to see this in police reports a lot. In the bad old 80s.

FWIW I think you made absolutely the right decision, OP.

EnamelledStars · 22/04/2020 20:44

Why the he’ll do these posters turn up asking on MN - either you think you should and just do it, or you want to virtue signal of some variety.

I’m not one to call out ‘pointless’ posts, but honestly, they are so frequent at the moment I just question why some people can’t make a decision without making a massive rigmarole of it first.

BeNiceToYourSister · 22/04/2020 20:45

I also think people are conflating society’s usual paranoia about teenagers (especially non MC ones) gathering in groups, which I agree is completely unfair, with the OP and many others’ concern about anyone gathering in groups at the moment, given the current situation. Of course people have every right to worry when a minority of fuckwits are breaking lockdown rules and thereby putting all of us at risk.

Isn’t that kind of the point of AIBU? Grin

Bargainhuntbore · 22/04/2020 20:49

Definitely report them. Its dicks like them and their parents that’s going to extend the lockdown.

Touché!

BovaryX · 22/04/2020 21:01

Do you live in a village in Suffolk? Or are you incapable of understanding why the OP might feel threatened by a group of kids who are breaking lockdown? OP, yep report it.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/04/2020 21:04

That's the only explanation!

Grew up in South London and have only ever lived in cities with significant social issues.

Village in Suffolk my arse.
