Convertible car

I appreciate there are a lot more serious issues at play at present, but genuinely interested. Is it unreasonable to put the roof down on a convertible on an essential journey say to the supermarket? I have seen some with roof down but lots with roof up when I'm sure they would have converted in this beautiful weather. Would you?

I really don't think there can be an issue with having the roof down. Maybe they just don't want the wind in their face.

PhoneLock · 22/04/2020 00:03

It's still an essential journey up or down.

FuriousCheekyFucker · 22/04/2020 00:03

I have a convertible and always put the roof down when I can.

Why not?

LonelyFromCorona · 22/04/2020 00:05

No it is not unreasonable. What a weird question.

Gettingo · 22/04/2020 00:08

It's like going on a bike, ie. fine

DragonforaMIL · 22/04/2020 08:08

I hadn't really thought about it like being on a bike, makes sense really. I dont really think it was a weird question, more random musings when I probably should have been in bed Grin

I have a convertible. I put the roof down to go food shopping the other day. I didnt feel bad about that- should I have done? I was alone in the car- surely opening the top means more air circulating and therefore better for me?
I am abiding by all the rules so having the top down on my car makes no difference. Actually- thats a lie, it did make a difference- it made me feel fantastic! (which yes, i know fun is not allowed during lockdown)

DysonFury · 22/04/2020 08:19

WTF?

RaelImperialAerosolKid · 22/04/2020 08:27

I did put the roof down last week when I went to the supermarket- however drove past two policemen who did 'look' at me - I did feel guilty for being overtly frivolous.

artistformerlyknownas · 22/04/2020 09:00

I put mine down, I don't know why you wouldn't!

StringyPotatoes · 22/04/2020 09:04

I have a convertible and put the roof down when I drive to the supermarket and when I delivered food to shielding friends. I don't have a garden as I live in a second floor flat so other than my daily half hour run this is the only fresh air I get. And it makes me feel great!

1555CC · 22/04/2020 09:16

They "looked" at you. Just thugs in uniform, half of them. It's turning into a police state. Police brutality it's just outrageous.

RaelImperialAerosolKid · 22/04/2020 09:24

It's true - I almost made a thread - am I unreasonable to be slightly perturbed because a policeman looked at me as I drove past him.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 22/04/2020 09:50

Reminds me of the old joke. A policeman stands next to a woman in a busy shopping street. She says: 'Officer, have I done something wrong?' He replies: 'Madam, we have to stand somewhere.'

Flossyfloof · 22/04/2020 09:53

I’ll be putting mine down today. Is not putting it down going to make any difference to anyone? I doubt it.

Chociefish · 22/04/2020 09:58

I like this one. I had a two seater rag top in my pre children days and loved it but you can't put children in the boot.

Alltheshoes74 · 22/04/2020 09:59

Mine has been down when the sun is shining.. extra vitamin d ;)

hellsbellsmelons · 22/04/2020 10:43

I don't put mine down very often.
Sun in my eyes.
Boot full etc.....
Motorway driving just means I get blown from pillar to post!
I'm not getting another convertible!

alittlequinnie · 22/04/2020 10:45

I too have a convertible and I have this dilemma!

I feel like people are judging me for being out in the car with the top down - it seems less "essential" somehow! I don't know how to describe it.

In my defence I've had the car 12 years and unless there is something falling out of the sky the roof is generally down! ^

  • My middle aged crisis obviously started when I was about 37!!!
NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 22/04/2020 11:59

but you can't put children in the boot.

Can you not? Well, I wish that someone had told me sooner .....

Omg can people lack any more common sense??

Osirus · 22/04/2020 18:11

We had a convertible and rarely had the roof down. I couldn’t stand the car and so glad it’s gone! We sold it and got a Land Rover instead - much more practical Grin

MimiLaRue · 23/04/2020 13:30

I LOVE having the roof down. My only hesitation is that when going on the motorway you often end up looking like this Grin
