Morrisons cancelled elderly mother's delivery. I nurse in London

covilha · 21/04/2020 22:25

Please help. I am a nurse in London. My elderly mother is self isolating and lives around 300 miles away from me. Before lockdown I stocked up her cupboards. Her friends are all elderly and self isolating too and no other family near by. She gets milk delivered. I was only able to arrange a delivery for her with one supermarket and that was to be this weekend. I have just logged onto to place her order and received a message saying her delivery slot has expired and there are no current slots available in her area. Does anyone know if there is anything I can do either via Morrisons or somewhere else as she is running low on food? Thanks

Co-op seem to have mini delivery slots in London - my nearest is Saturday and a max of 20 items but better than nothing.

ludothedog · 21/04/2020 22:28

There will be local help groups on Facebook, next try charities and church groups otherwise the council.

Lovelydovey · 21/04/2020 22:28

Or there are a number of food box schemes - Morrison’s, m&s and Aldi are all doing these I think. Though you don’t get any choice in the items delivered.

Geometricprince · 21/04/2020 22:28

Is there a local Facebook group in her area? Lots near us who'd be happy to help. Would you be willing to share where she is (roughly!)

Peppafrig · 21/04/2020 22:29

If it's expired then you didn't check out in time. You only have a set amount of time to check out before they give it to someone else. To say they cancelled is wrong the fault lies with you. Have toy looked into the Morrison's £35 food box it's really good. Aldi do one now too.

Purplewithred · 21/04/2020 22:29

There will be groups locally who will help her - checkout Facebook on her town Facebook sites, call her gp and ask for her to be referred to the nhs volunteers, or call her local council.

Daisyhut · 21/04/2020 22:30

Where is she based?

LittleOwl153 · 21/04/2020 22:30

You could try the Morrison's food boxes delivered by dpd. You don't get to choose what is in it but it will keep her going for a few days. M&s and aldi appear to be doing similar.

Alternatively you could phone the supermarket helplines - there will be long queues - and make sure she is on the vulnerable list. My mum gets a weekly slot from sainsburys because she is over 70.

Finally search for the community help for her area. Most parish councils or voluntary sector groups are organising shopping local to them.

SqueakyChicken · 21/04/2020 22:30

Call her local authority, they will have things in place to help the vulnerable and get food to her.

Marnie76 · 21/04/2020 22:31

I would try all the farm shops near to her. Do you ever have deliveries as you could use your slot for delivery to her (this is what i have done for in laws). You could registering her with Sainsbury’s, there is a number on their website for vulnerable people to register.

JustStayHome · 21/04/2020 22:32

When u saved the delivery slot did u log out?

I know it doesnt help you now, But when you get the slot, put 2 or 3 things in there and log out and pay and go back on there and change / update your delivery.
But do this atleast afew hours before the deadline because the shopping sites are crashing late in the evenings

Peppafrig · 21/04/2020 22:34

Do Iceland deliver in her area too? They release slots at lunch time everyday for the next day and they let those shielding access an hour before general public .

Scoleah · 21/04/2020 22:34

It's not much, but Heinz also do a Essentials Bundle.
8 x beans, 4 x spaghetti hoops. 4 x tomato soup for £10, delivered with courier direct from their website.
Link here

Free delivery if you have a bluelight code too

WorraLiberty · 21/04/2020 22:35

Keep trying every few hours (especially at midnight).

I've just checked Morrisons in my area (London/Essex) and they have 9 slots available in the next couple of days.

They nearly always release more at midnight. Do remember though, the slot is only held for an hour. You have to checkout with about £40 of shopping in order to keep it. You can then edit the order up until a couple of days beforehand.

Paperthin · 21/04/2020 22:36

A few ideas:

  • Our local Morrison’s have their own ‘order and delivery’ process, separate from the national system. It was set up because the national system was not working. I’m not sure if it’s for all stores but might be worth a call to them.
  • Local Facebook group. My dad lives 100 miles from me and is ok but I’ve joined the local Facebook group for his town and can see there are local food delivery schemes going on.
  • Councils - all local authorities have been given funding for food parcels for vulnerable residents , so a call to local authority might be a good idea
  • Age Uk - again in my dads area AgeUK seem to be offering to do shopping and collect prescriptions etc
  • Local foodbanks , again are there these close by ? My friend runs a local one and her volumes have gone up providing for local elderly and vulnerable people

Hope this helps, it’s hard being far away at this time.

planestrains · 21/04/2020 22:37

I have been able to get Iceland delivery slots for my dad at very short notice. Sainsbury's also look that they had click and collect slots over the coming days near my dad, if that could be an option?

My dad did a click and collect at Tesco today and he didn't even need to get out of the car or wind down his window. They just loaded it straight into the boot for him.

It's such a worry - hope you get something sorted for her.

PumpkinP · 21/04/2020 22:38

I agree with whoever suggested Iceland’s, I got a slot yesterday that was delivered today. Yeh they don’t have as much as the bigger supermarkets but they are nice and cheap and I got everything I ordered.

Daughtersandme · 21/04/2020 22:38

YABU for blaming Morrisons. They didn't cancel your delivery slot. You haven't gone through the check out process properly to secure your time slot. Your time slot has expired because you haven't checked out and paid in time.

missmapp · 21/04/2020 22:39

My mum is a similar distance away and we also had a nightmare with supermarket deliveries. I ended up arranging a local milk and bread delivery and phoned a local fruit and veg shop so they also deliver. She still needs a supermarket delivery but it takes the pressure off a bit

Davros · 21/04/2020 22:39

Make sure she is registered on the government's website. They will send a free box of basic food every week if required and you will get access to supermarket delivery slots. Otherwise try Nextdoor as well as FB and local authority.

HandfulOfDust · 21/04/2020 22:41

Is there a local facebook group for the location she lives? I know in my village we have a network of volunteer shoppers and have been doing shopping arranged for by relatives of elderly people who aren't on Facebook.

GreyishDays · 21/04/2020 22:41

If you try again you need to check out within the two hour limit or whatever they give you. You can then amend the order at leisure.

covilha · 21/04/2020 22:44

Thanks for all this information- it is very much appreciated. My mother is in the North East of- England- I will try her GP and see if an alternative can be organised. It made me panic as I am so far away and cant go home to help her.

Facebook group: lend a hand/ask a favour (uk) has people on it from all over the country. Lots of people have asked for help for relatives living far away and have had helpful responses and practical help

Notthecarwashagain · 21/04/2020 22:46

My grandma used the Morrisons telephone order service recently.
She was very happy with it.

'Our Morrisons Doorstep delivery service is available to vulnerable and elderly members of the community, unable to go shopping in-store.

Call 0345 611 6111 and select option 5 to place your order.'
