To think people shouldn't walk to my village?

Hello,

With the knowledge that this will make me sound quite snooty, I firstly apologise and explain it is because I worry for my own and family's safety as we are all asthmatic and at heightened risk from COVID-19.

We live in a very pretty little village, in a small conservation area in a semi rural location. We are about 2 miles from the nearest modern housing estate. Usually, the lane through the village has a couple of regular dog walkers.

Now that we are lockdown and people are getting out to exercise in the sun (great), the lane is like a motorway. There is a constant stream of people from the housing estate coming for their walk to the village. I understand it must be dull to walk around a modern housing estate. Over 500m there were 30 people. Usually you might see 1. We can't even go for a short walk without risk of coming into contact with people.

Entire large families are coming with 5-6 children out of control on bikes etc, treating the lane past our houses like a park. I've spotted people touching our walls, gates etc, even caught one nosing in the garden!

Many of these people are not staying into the side to observe social distancing, and have dogs off the lead that need to be fetched away.

AIBU to think people should stick to their own areas for their exercise? In a way, I something feel that if they wanted beautiful walks outside their front-door they should have coughed up the extra £100k to live here...

And this post HAS to be a wind up, surely?!!
But the images of women wearing tweed skirts, American tan tights, sturdy shoes and headscarves wielding jars of chutneys and pickles to lob at the enemy makes me chuckle.
"Hello Police? I want to report a drive by pickling..."Grin

IamaBluebird · 21/04/2020 20:37

This thread has everything , an Op who quite clearly doesn't want the near by riff raff touching her gate and flowers.
The mentions of Swansea make me want to dress my 8 children in their football kits and stroll to the village. It would be more than 2 miles though and too far for our staffie to walk. Daffodil

Happy0 · 21/04/2020 20:42

love this! something I think but don't have the balls to say

CherryPavlova · 21/04/2020 20:47

That’s the trouble with semi-rural suburbia. Far too near modern housing estates.

You should have forgone the net curtains and architectural planting to buy rurally and avoid ghastly things like surfaced ‘lanes’ and gardens close to where people walk.

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/04/2020 20:49

OP not been back? Quelle surprise.

ANoiseAnnoys · 21/04/2020 20:54

Ugh, the horror! Large families you say? Out of CONTROL on bikes you say? Good god! Do you have an air rifle you could use to pick them off from your bedroom window OP?

Fromthebirdsnest · 21/04/2020 20:55

At least there not littering everywhere ! Our house backs on to a big field & lovely park propeller coming hanging around having picnics and littering shielding so we can't but lots of our neighbours are having to go out and litterpick in glovases and masks at night as we all don't want our lovely area ruined , however you are being unreasonable people can walk where they please but if they go in your garden then shout at them to get out that's awful x also yabu to stealth boast about your extra 100k house 100% guarantee in better off than you but unless your my husband No one knows how much money we have or how much our house is worth ect or would be judge other s by there bank balance or property prices ... How common of you.

I haven't read the whole thread but this....

Is disgusting. I live in a one bed flat in a town centre, often known for being a bit of a 'dive'. I'm a med sec about to train as a midwife and my partner is a radiographer. We can't afford more. One day, we will. But right now we can't and people should not be chastised for where they live. Im so angry at that comment.

DirtyTicket · 21/04/2020 21:04

How the fuck is this obviously goady thread still going? It's obviously a load of made-up shite.

sniffysnuffler · 21/04/2020 21:05

Jesus. You think the pavements are less crowded on the housing estate? Or do you just think that the lane being crowded is especially bad because this places people from your village at risk, and they are obviously more valuable than people on the housing estate? Ugh.

Sparklingbrook · 21/04/2020 21:08

Best entertainment on offer at present , especially as people are still falling for it and answering in all seriousness after 300+ replies. Grin

WiddlinDiddlin · 21/04/2020 21:16

This is what you've spent the whole time since you bought your house, sharpening that pitch fork for...

Get out there love, get out there and chase those peasants orf, they ARE NOT LOCAL...........

LST · 21/04/2020 21:22

Yes YABU and a complete snob. Eurgh.

LockedDownNOut · 21/04/2020 21:23

@MuddyPuddlesAndPrettyBubbles Did you say, 'on either side?', just wallk on straight ahead, (to wherever it takes you), no need to turn to the left or right. Very presumptuous of you!

Grin.

1Morewineplease · 21/04/2020 21:25

And don’t forget.. there are some folk who have paid 2/3/4/500,000’s more than you to live in a rural idyll who don’t begrudge families who want some fresh air and lovely views.
Maybe your isolation price wasn’t high enough.

Edgar Allan Poe wrote this with so much more aplomb in The Masque of the Red Death.

I wonder where that "extra 100K" is supposed to come from? The money fairy?

Chickpeees · 21/04/2020 21:31

I voted yanbu just for the hysterics and the follow up stealth boasts.

etopp · 21/04/2020 21:54

@MaidenMotherCrone 😂😂😂

I am sure the OP keeps her bush in very good nick, just in case of wandering plebs.

stophuggingme · 21/04/2020 21:55

@CaptSkippy

Perhaps the OP is Theresa May?
Grin

loreleigilmore28 · 21/04/2020 22:34

You don't own the village you live in, you own your own house and that's it .
Sounds like you're miffed that the great unwashed from the 'housing estate' are daring the venture in and enjoy it.

If you wanted your own private place perhaps you should cough up a few million and buy a private island.

Frangipanini · 22/04/2020 09:25

Better get some security quick OP or barricade your village off. The way thing are going it won't be long before hookers, burglars and street urchins are all hanging round your village some Oliver type scene all singing Consider Yourself.

SerenDippitty · 22/04/2020 09:35

Perhaps the OP is Theresa May?

Even Theresa May is not that much of a snob and I’m no Tory. OP sounds more like Jacob Rees Mogadishu to me.

SerenDippitty · 22/04/2020 09:36

Mogg ffs!
