In thinking of complaining to cbeebies

I'm so annoyed at those silly pop up things which tell you what programme is up next. DS1 (2and a half) thinks they're fantastic and gets really excited about the next programme which means I can no longer lie to him and tell him that cbeebies is finished now when I think he's had enough. Tantrums gallore in our house now that he can no longer be fooled! They should be more responsible - or maybe I should and should ban childrens tv!

I think you are absolutely right, I find that really annoying as well.

You're in charge.

Try giving him lots of warning the TV will be going off. 5 minutes then finsished. 1 minute then finiashed 10, 9 8 etc ok lets turn it off.

It takes a few goes but they soon get it & saves the screaming every time.

They're intrusive - they obliterated some craft thing we were watching the other day.

Go on, write. Just because they can dicker about with things all over the screen doesn't mean they should.

i don't think they should ban childrens tv (look at poor citv). but they should end at a certain time.

think you have a good point though, it would have driven me mad, children can work out how the tv works quickly

tbh I'd just tell him it's time for it to go off now and if he threw a wobbly, he'd find himself on the stairs!

It is annoying though - the whole of cbeebies annoys me - why do kids need 13 hours of tv aired a day ? why not just have what we used to have and keep it to certain times (nowhere near 13 hours per day!)

DH thinks its evil and gets very cross when I "use it as a babysitter" however he doesn't have to cope with a two year old and a collicky newborn all day! Have tried the warning thing but the pop ups get him excited and I feel mean. I need to be more firm!!!

you can be firm, but it would be easier if they just didn't do it.

(it annoys me on films too, you're reading the credits, then all of a sudden some wally starts telling you what's next)

Not seen them as don't watch it yet, but if they don't have pictures or a voiceover, then that means your 2 year old is an incredibly G and T child reading at that age.

Actually yes that's really annoying too. Particularly if you've liked the music in the film and are trying to listen to it on the end credits. God I'm turning into a right whinger!

I agree that its annoying. dd spots whats coming up next and if we have to switch off for school, bed whatever it does sometimes lead to upset.
of course i'm in charge of the tv and when its going off , its off, but I could do without another reason to make dd cry/have a tantrum etc

Well of course he's a genius! but actually they're pictures. Designed to be understood by even the youngest of children and to frustrate parents

I used to celebrate pop-up thingys with newborn... meant I could bribe DD1 to sit still a bit longer... "Look, the Numberjacks are on in a minute, lets carry on watching" (Read: Mummy can slob a bit longer)

you can watch disney all through the night i think. i do think children's tv cable channels should be shut off at a certain time.

I've already complained twice - once cos they annoyed me and then the second time when the pop up completely covered Justin when he was signing on something special. If you go onto the cbeebies messageboard on the bbc website there is whole 'petition' thread going. They have replied saying they are reviewing the impact it has had and the response of parents. Problem is the powers that be seem quite proud of themselves that they have found an 'effective' way of communicating with their audience. I think they need to rethink who their actual audience is - e.g parents have the power not the children.

OK I've overcome my embarrasment and am back onto complaining. They can't cover up Justin. He's the Floella of his day. I think he's fab. He has a face made for children's tv.

i hate that bit too and have thought of complaining but tbh i think thats why they do it..ie to keep kids watching. its irresponsible of then to be attrac\ting children like that imo

Never mind pop ups. What is'In the night garden' all about. Ds has 1/2 hour before bedtime and we sit with him. Are those makers on LSD or something?!! Dh and I hate it. Not sure what Ds thinks as he is in some sort of trance

DOGs (Digital OnScreen Graphics) of any sort are immensely irritating. I hate the ones in the corner telling you which channel you are watching. I have an antire series of a programme I was taping off C4 for 5 years totally ruined by some stupid big logo in the corner.

Justin and the girl are lovely. Ds falls about laughing. Why can't they put him on at 6.30pm so DH can see his Son having a good laugh

I agree, I have had the same problem. Equally though I have had teh dds run screaming from teh room b/c Numderjacks, Tommy Zoom or (for dd2) Come Outside is about to come on (dd2 is scared of Pippin!)

Bizarre isn't it. I can't stand it. All that silly messing with perspective stuff drives me barmy. It does however seem to have some sort of hypnotic power since DS1 also loves it and I had thought it would be too babyish for him. The Iggle Piggle pop up actually prompted this post. I wanted the tv off before Night Garden came on but Iggle Piggle popped up before I could get to the remote control!
