Based on what FFS?

WhenYouveAFirstInEnglish · 21/04/2020 01:40

Based on that I wouldn’t WANT to go on holiday. Menu looks dreadful.

I get that you always end up with 9 so you are always going to be staying at home but just can't work out the maths behind the trick. Sometimes it's really obvious (eg multiply be x in one step; divide by x in another step) but I can't see it for this. It's a good one.

slashlover · 21/04/2020 07:07

By multiplying by 3 twice, you are multiplying by 9.The trick works for any two digit number which is a multiple of 9.

09 18 27 36 45 54 63 72 81 90

Even with the highest number chosen (9) by 3 +3 you're essentially just the same as starting with 103.

Is it bollocks, there are lots of lovely places on that list.

Yes, as slash says, whatever number you start with, you're multiplying by 9 and all 2 digit multiples of 9 add up to 9 when you add the 2 numbers together. It might also work for higher numbers, eg 99, 9+9 = 18, then 1+8= 9

AmelieTaylor · 21/04/2020 07:46

Yep. That looks about right 🤣🤣

KatherineJaneway · 21/04/2020 07:48

That's the holiday I expected

Morechocmorechoc · 21/04/2020 08:04

I like that, good one OP

Ha, glad she's me people got the joke!

Yes, very mathematically tricky to figure the how but thanks for the explanation from those more mathematically enhanced than myself
