Everybody’s talking about Jamie age suitability

My DS is year 7. His drama teacher has sent a booklet with the work for this term. The last item is a suggestion to watch Everybody’s talking about Jamie.
I have seen Jamie in the theatre and really enjoyed it however I don’t think it’s suitable for 11/12 year olds - more like 14+.
AIBU to think Jamie is an inappropriate suggestion for year 7s?

The film release has been listed by the BBFC as 12A for moderate sex references, discriminatory behaviour, strong language.

absolutely suitable, that’s not too far away and only concepts they will be exposed to anyway simply by mixing with older children in school. Best to explore, understand and inform them now.

I haven’t seen it but what about it wouldn’t be suitable for a 12 year old?

It’s a good time to start. The ‘gay’ insults will have started long before now and it’s good for them to see the effect of them. The language is something year sevens will have been exposed to as well.

Took my daughter on her 13th Birthday. Loved it. Yes, is a bit sweary etc but nothing she hadn't heard before, in fact she said the classroom scenes were very similar to what goes on in her own class!

We first saw the live screening when DD2 was in Y7, then they saw it in the theatre on a school trip in Y8. I felt it was age appropriate and nothing that they aren’t exposed to at school.

Well that’s a unanimous YABU for me - I know DS would love the humour in it. Sounds like the biggest problem is I haven’t accepted the language he’s been exposed to in secondary school already.

I took my son to see it at the theatre when he was in 11 - he loved it as did my daughter who was 14. Had the songs on repeat for weeks. Fabulous show.
