Boyfriend not washing hands

Cherryanne20 · 19/04/2020 19:27

Really irritated as my boyfriend makes up excuses in order not to wash his hands. With all that’s going on with this coronavirus, I expect everyone in our household to wash their hands when they’ve come in from outdoors.
My boyfriend thinks its ridiculous and will say “but my hands are clean” “oh I’ve not touched anything”. It’s making me feel annoyed. Im working from home but he is a key worker. He comes and goes, enjoying daily supermarket trips (totally unecessary as we do a weekly shop). He goes into shops and not bothered about touching things, I’m constantly asking him not to touch. It’s getting on my nerves. Not sure what to do?

Show him the door because of the utter contempt he’s showing you and your health.

BigChocFrenzy · 19/04/2020 19:47

YANBU
Order of the boot

Even without the COVID epidemic, I wouldn't be with someone who doesn't wash their hands as routine at least
when they come in, after loo, before preparing food, before eating ....

JustOneSquareofDarkChocolate · 19/04/2020 19:48

He sounds a bit dim

blubberball · 19/04/2020 20:27

Get rid.

Macncheeseballs · 19/04/2020 20:28

He's a cock

Carbosug · 19/04/2020 20:29

He sounds thick and ignorant. The kind of person who's putting everyone at risk right now.

Branster · 19/04/2020 20:31

Everyone should wash their hands when returning home even if it wasn’t for the Coronavirus. He’s lacking basic hygiene skills and I putting everyone at risk in the current situation unless he is using a hand sanitiser regularly.

Cherryanne20 · 19/04/2020 20:31

Not using sanitiser!!

He doesn't care if he puts you at risk of dying. He's a selfish bastard. Do you really want to be in a relationship with a selfish bastard who is happy to put your life at risk?

Branster · 19/04/2020 22:27

Ah then he really is playing Russian roulette here. And he is inconsiderate towards you and anybody else living there. The advice is the same all over the world: don’t touch face, wash hands properly, keep your distance. If he thinks he is invincible, try and look for info about younger, healthy individuals who get very, very sick and can die from the reaction caused by their healthy immune system fighting this virus. It is calked cytokine storm and it cannot be predicted. Also look up info about pneumonia- apparently it can be one of the symptoms for people with easy and moderate reactions. So basically if he gets something like that, his lungs will never ever be the same again.
There’s no need to panic anyone but a short, sharp shock might make him see the light.

Is he being a baby and doesn’t like the type of soap available or is he uncomfortable with cold water (some taps take ages to bring warm water)? Either of these he can sort out on his own.

Daisiest · 19/04/2020 22:32

He's an idiot.

EmeraldShamrock · 19/04/2020 22:35

He is a self centred arsehole. I'm irrationally angry due to my personal situation. Kick him out he is an absolute childish dickhead.

billy1966 · 19/04/2020 22:42

OP, take this as a pure gift.

He's shown you that he is a completely selfish, stupid, unhygienic, idiot.

I wouldn't look back...

MigginsMs · 19/04/2020 22:43

Why are you with this total ignorant dickhead?

101Familyiseverything · 19/04/2020 22:57

Does he normally wash his hands?

Not sure I understand his way of thinking, something must be causing his retraction to it. Other than him telling you he doesn't want too cause his hands are clean, has he given you any other clue to his reaction to this?

I'm stuck to give advice because I have no idea how I'd react if it was my husband.

Is there a chance he's just winding you up? Maybe he could sleep in the shed tonight! I hope you manage to resolve this and get him to see the severity of how things are at the moment.

WhereYouLeftIt · 19/04/2020 23:18

"Show him the door because of the utter contempt he’s showing you and your health."

^ This x100

pigsDOfly · 19/04/2020 23:32

Well given the amount of people who I've seen not washing their hands after using public lavatories I suspect he's probably isn't alone.

A great many people seem to have very poor hygiene standards I can't believe they've all suddenly become contentious, thorough hand washers and it sounds like he's one of those people.

I suppose it comes down to whether you can accept his dangerous stupidity or not.

If you value your health, probably best to show him the door as pp suggested.

managedmis · 19/04/2020 23:33

Curtains for me too

Urggghhhh

violetbunny · 20/04/2020 01:56

I couldn't have sex with someone who had such poor hygiene Sad

planningaheadtoday · 20/04/2020 02:03

I had this just before lockdown with one of my teenagers. Didn't want to know, all a big fuss over a cold etc.

My solution was to leave my key in the lock inside and the door locked.

Then you can police who comes in and what they do as they step through the door. I would wait until they had washed hands in the downstairs cloakroom before letting them pass into the house.

It took a week for him to know I meant business.

I'd do it to my husband too if needed but he's quite disciplined with hand washing as I'm high risk.

BumpyNugget · 20/04/2020 02:16

Very careless with your health, utterly disrespectful to you. Even without coronavirus, I wouldn't put up with that.

Also, key worker? What sort of key worker?

Who else's life is this dirty selfish bastard risking.

soannya · 20/04/2020 03:00

Disgusting! I’d have to get rid of somebody like this

mous · 20/04/2020 03:14

Show him the door. Wear gloves tho

ksf5555xxx · 20/04/2020 03:19

Toss him out with the other rubbish...

Be glad he's shown you clearly how selfish he is before BF becomes hubby. He's not changing. How horrible!

vixxo · 20/04/2020 03:22

I'd have to dump him, sorry. Too stupid.
