To ask if you're all going to have your cleaners back? And have you been paying them?

I'm a self employed cleaner who's obviously lost all of my jobs for now. I was just thinking, what if all my former clients have started cleaning themselves and finding it's not too bad so don't want me back? Also have you been paying your cleaner? Kept in touch with them? Do you expect them to come back?

I've got new temporary work for now and I'm definitely not going back to few who I was thinking of sacking anyway, and I've not heard anything from them.

Also, when do you think we'll be allowed back? At what point will you have your cleaner back?

Yes she’s coming back, I can barely keep on top of it in her absence with a 4yr old and a newborn.
Paying her full pay in the meantime as we are receiving normal wages.

Paying her every week. I'm also self employed and I feel that we need to stick together!
Funnily enough, my cleaner has just checked in via text. I definitely want her back - I hate cleaning!

ilovewinterpansies · 19/04/2020 17:59

Yes will have my cleaner back and yes am paying. I don't mind cleaning but usually don't have the time.

I think if you can afford to pay then you should. I can see the argument of "they should claim govt help, if they didn't declare income and pay their taxes they shouldn't get help now" but I've known my wonderful cleaner for ages and l just couldn't not pay when I know she relies on it.

HeretoThereandBackAgain · 19/04/2020 18:01

I use a small family run cleaning firm. I haven’t been paying, tbh I’ve been considering dropping them as they have been charging for hours they’re not doing and the standards have definitely dropped. I think this will give me a push to find someone else.

TheSmelliestHouse · 19/04/2020 18:03

I'm still paying mine. She told me not to, but I know she and her husband have lost a lot of income. I'm. The only one of her clients who pays her. It feels like the right thing to do, as we're both still being paid. She's said not too but she's also said she's grateful for it so I thi k she needs the cash. Can't wait till she's back tho she's lovely and she does a better job than I do.

ElbasAbsentPenis · 19/04/2020 18:10

I’ve been paying mine and can’t wait to have them come back.

abitoflight · 19/04/2020 18:12

Yes paying and I so looking forward to seeing her! DD2 says she's the nearest thing to a grandmother she's ever had

Pipandmum · 19/04/2020 18:14

My cleaner has a part time job which she is still doing (food retail) and I'm sure she does the cleaning for cash. I've lost half my income but I'm still better off than she is so I've told her I'll pay her half, which I'll just give her in cash when she starts back.
I've got a feeling they might have schools go back after May half term so I'll have her back then, or whenever that time is.

SpokeTooSoon · 19/04/2020 18:14

How does one become a favourite client OP?

SpokeTooSoon · 19/04/2020 18:16

Cleaning my own house has made me wonder how on earth my cleaner does such a good job in so few hours? I can easily spend an hour cleaning just our main bathroom.

What are the tricks OP?

Twinberry · 19/04/2020 18:16

Nope. I don’t like the thought of her potentially spreading the virus from other houses to ours.

allaboardthesinkingship · 19/04/2020 18:17

We will deff be having her back (if she'll come) my husband is self employed and not working so we can't afford to pay her atm. She wouldn't take it anyway

Di11y · 19/04/2020 18:18

been paying and can't wait to have her back. the house is terrible with us both WFH and a 6yo and 2yo trashing the place while we are.

Mustbetimeforachange · 19/04/2020 18:19

We had just found a new one who came once before lockdown. I have told them I would like them to come back after this resolves but didn't offer to pay as I don't have an ongoing relationship with them. They are a small company so presumably can get some help through government schemes. I am self employed & my income has dropped by 99.5% so I can't afford to pay anyway. And no, I fall between the cracks so can't claim anything.

rawlikesushi · 19/04/2020 18:20

My income has dropped and I can't afford to keep paying her, or to have her back afterwards sadly.

ceeveebee · 19/04/2020 18:20

We are still paying our cleaner and will definitely want her back. Despite living in a fairly affluent area we are apparently one of the only people who are still paying her, including footballers, bankers etc.,

Kinneddar · 19/04/2020 18:23

No and no. I messaged my cleaner & said I didnt think it was wise for her to come at the moment and that I'd transferred her money. She read the message and hasnt so much as acknowledged it or the payment. I've been doing my own cleaning the past few weeks and while the novelty may not last I'm realising its not that bad a job. I only have a wee house & I seem to be taking a lot more care now I'm.doing it myself

I'm.not sure I'm going to get her back after all this partly down to her attitude and the fact I'm not sure its worth the money now

saraclara · 19/04/2020 18:25

I'm in touch with mine and will definitely have her back. I'm paying her 50% (as she's fairly flaky and has some health issues, and probably only comes three times out of five, so otherwise I'd be paying her more than I do when she's working!). She's very appreciative of that anyway.

HavelockVetinari · 19/04/2020 18:26

We're paying our lovely cleaner, whilst we're still getting paid it would be morally wrong not to pay her. Anyone who is still getting paid and isn't paying their cleaner/gardener is a disgrace.

We'll have her back as soon as it's safe for all.

sugarcherry · 19/04/2020 18:26

Yes, paying in full even though we have 60% less income. She needs the money. And she's wonderful. We miss her.

maddy68 · 19/04/2020 18:26

If I'm honest I was considering getting rid of my cleaner as my work hours have change. NOT A CHANCE. I may pay her more!

Mylittlepony374 · 19/04/2020 18:27

Yes will get her back. Yes paying her- she only takes cash so I've just been putting a couple of weeks worth in her letterbox. .She lives on road on my way to supermarket for anyone about to say that's not essential...

MoonBlood · 19/04/2020 18:29

Yes and yes. I’m due a baby in 8 weeks so I can’t wait for them to come back, I’m missing them dreadfully

BillieEyeFish · 19/04/2020 18:29

We’re paying full and I hope she comes back! She’s an amazing cleaner though and if she was like one of the ones we’ve had that have been a bit lacklustre, we probably wouldn’t have paid.
