To ask if you're all going to have your cleaners back? And have you been paying them?

I'm a self employed cleaner who's obviously lost all of my jobs for now. I was just thinking, what if all my former clients have started cleaning themselves and finding it's not too bad so don't want me back? Also have you been paying your cleaner? Kept in touch with them? Do you expect them to come back?

I've got new temporary work for now and I'm definitely not going back to few who I was thinking of sacking anyway, and I've not heard anything from them.

Also, when do you think we'll be allowed back? At what point will you have your cleaner back?

And your AIBU is??

hibbledobble · 19/04/2020 17:15

Have you told your clients that you aren't coming? Communication works both ways.

My cleaner isn't coming for the moment, her choice. I can't pay her as she only takes cash in hand.

Tunnocks34 · 19/04/2020 17:16

I am. I can’t wait to have my cleaner back. And I have been paying her, as well as my window cleaner.

multivac · 19/04/2020 17:17

I am paying my cleaners - and can't wait for them to come back. They'll have to start moving the furniture to clean now, though...

PurpleDaisies · 19/04/2020 17:17

Yes and yes.

Bringringbring12 · 19/04/2020 17:18

Yes and no

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/04/2020 17:19

Yes, and yes (paying half)

Jojobythesea · 19/04/2020 17:19

I can't wait for my lovely cleaner to be back. I am still paying her while myself or my DH are earning as normal but said if we get furloughed would have to stop. Definitely can't wait for her to return tho. Worth. Her. Weight. In. Gold.

SkelingtonArgument · 19/04/2020 17:20

Yes, I’ve been paying by bank transfer rather than the usual cash. I can’t wait for my cleaner to come back, the house is filthy! I have a cleaner because I can’t be bothered to do it myself

FudgeBrownie2019 · 19/04/2020 17:20

Yep and yep. I miss ours and have paid her the full amount each week because others might not be able to. Window cleaner and gardener, too.

I can clean. I do clean. But when I'm out at work 5 days a week it is blissful to come home to freshly-laundered bedding and sparkly sinks. I would pay her to come back now if I could.

SkelingtonArgument · 19/04/2020 17:21

Paying 80% by the way, so £20 a week rather than the usual £25

UntamedWisteria · 19/04/2020 17:21

I've been paying my cleaner, and I'm looking forward to her coming back.

But I'm not sure how we'll manage it, as DH & I are still keen to maintain social distancing ... DH is 60 & overweight, & I'm asthmatic so we want to keep the risks as low as possible.

mynameiscalypso · 19/04/2020 17:22

Still paying and also thinking about asking for a double (or triple...) session when she does come back. I've been keeping the place tidy and clean but it needs a proper going over.

hopeishere · 19/04/2020 17:22

Yes and no but I did offer to.

cheesecurdsandgravy · 19/04/2020 17:23

YES and yes.

missionalmostimpossible · 19/04/2020 17:24

I'm still paying our cleaner her weekly £30, and even though we've been keeping on top of things while lockdown is on, I can't wait for her to come back. I don't want to spend my free time cleaning, when it's much more convenient to pay someone else to do it!

LadyRoughDiamond · 19/04/2020 17:24

Yes, I'll be having her back. We paid her in full for March and she has opted to apply for the government funding for self-employed people from April onwards.
All of my friends have done the same - it's the right thing to do if you can afford it.

Arseit · 19/04/2020 17:25

Yes and yes.

PapsofJura · 19/04/2020 17:28

I definitely will have mine back as soon as it’s allowed. I offered to keep paying her but she refused so I have put the money aside to give it to her on her return- I have offered many times but she’s not comfortable taking it just now.

TakeMeToYourLiar · 19/04/2020 17:31

I'm not paying, she hasn't asked

As long as I'm not made redundant then I am desperate for her to come back

TenaciousP · 19/04/2020 17:33

No idea when cleaners will be allowed back. I will have mine back in a heartbeat. And yes I have been paying her.

coffeeagogo · 19/04/2020 17:33

My cleaner said she would come if we left the house for 4 hours each week (apart from the fact I wfh in normal circumstances, never mind in lockdown) more so now than ever we can’t to that so she isn’t coming. Fine I understand that.

I wanted to set up a standing order payment for her weekly over a year ago, but she will only take cash in hand, so I am not paying her. She hasn’t been contact with me at all.

If she comes back fine, if she doesn’t then that’s up to her. I appreciate her work, but if I have to clean my house I will - it’s the least of my worries at this stage.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 19/04/2020 17:36

@Ihavenoregrets
Tit.

20Newnames · 19/04/2020 17:38

Yes we will have her back and no we haven’t been paying. She does a tax return so will get 80% of her profits from the government scheme.

I am worried she will want to come back before we are comfortable doing so but will deal with that at the time. At least the self-employed help is currently until the end of May, I suspect it may be extended like the employed help has been.

We have sent a few messages but not many.

mangocoveredlamb · 19/04/2020 17:38

Yes paying, desperate for her to come back. Hoping she’ll do more hours for me when this is over, so you could say paying her is in my best interests!
