Wheely bin cleaning

MargotMoon · 19/04/2020 00:05

I didn't know this was a thing until this evening! Someone has posted on local Facebook group asking for recommendations for a wheely bin cleaning service...

Am I being unreasonable/a complete scrubber for having a dirty wheely bin?

I hate having a dirty bin. All our stuff is bagged but we always seem to get bits at the bottom. I just throw the washing up water in after the bin has been emptied. I leave it an hour and then tip it out.

Forgetaboutme · 19/04/2020 00:14

Just realised my bin hasn't been cleaned since I moved in October. Used to get it cleaned at the old house. Obviously not needed lol.

MeerkatMolly · 19/04/2020 00:16

I didn’t know it was a thing until recently. £10 per bin around here. I suppose if you can’t do it yourself for some reason it’s a good service. The person running it running it here does a good trade.

Sparklesocks · 19/04/2020 00:17

I normally just give mine a quick hose down and chuck some bleach in mine!

Notso · 19/04/2020 00:18

I have mine done, it's about £8 for both bins.

Northernsoullover · 19/04/2020 00:20

I can't think of any reason why I would get mine cleaned. That said we now have to put our food waste in it and it was quite unpleasant so maybe I'll live it up and get it done at some point

TheGinGenie · 19/04/2020 00:29

£10 a bin? Crikey ours is £2.50 a bin

Bringmewineandcake · 19/04/2020 00:35

I had my black bin done while my daughter was still in nappies and it was the summer 🤢
It was £2.50 per clean, well worth it.

User7764217 · 19/04/2020 00:36

£3 a bin and is pure laziness on my part but bin cleaning man is my favourite man!

MargotMoon · 19/04/2020 00:38

But I still don't get why? It's a wheely bin, it sits outside the house, it has a lid and so doesn't smell. Why is clean bin pride a thing??

We only cleaned our bin once when a tub of cream leaked. After that we bought wheelie bin liners. Having to use the food caddy made a big difference to whether the bin stank. I don't know why people feel the need to clean them. I do wipe the handle for the bin men at the moment but that's it. I do rinse out the food bins as they attract flies and ours sit by the back door.

Bringmewineandcake · 19/04/2020 00:45

Margot because mine is 2ft away from my front door and stank to high heaven with toddler shit in the height of summer.

CSIblonde · 19/04/2020 00:47

A few people where I live got theirs done in the summer but not since. I do ours in the summer with washing up liquid & v hot water then rinse with garden hose, as thats when it gets whiffy. I suppose I should prob do it Winter time too really but its not smelling then.

Zombiemum1946 · 19/04/2020 00:49

I think if you throw waste in that's not bagged and your putting in nappies or bagged dog mess then a regular wash just to keep the smell down isn't a bad thing.

MadisonAvenue · 19/04/2020 00:53

I’ve been getting our household rubbish bin done for the last year. Pretty much everything that goes in it is bagged up but it still smells a bit at times as food waste goes in (we don’t have a separate caddy for that) plus we have a dog so his little bags go in there too. Anyway, it’s done monthly, costs £3 and smells beautifully of cherry disinfectant once it’s been cleaned.

PumpkinP · 19/04/2020 01:02

Mine actually does really stink but then I have a child in nappies, actually the other day it was vile, it’s £10 around here aswell per bin but I’m in London. I may do it actually as don’t want to clean it myself

Wejustdontknow · 19/04/2020 01:18

£3 every two weeks here, best purchase of the month 🙂 Our bin smells by the time it’s due to be emptied, especially in summer and I wouldn’t want to do it myself 🤢

Louiselouie0890 · 19/04/2020 01:29

I did it in the summer with the heat and babies nappies it wasnt pleasant

SpoonBlender · 19/04/2020 01:46

Washing wheelie bins is one of the most remarkably pointless Mrs Bucket things I can imagine. A couple of our neighbours get it done, but pretend they just couldn't say no to the nice lads who come round and do it. Silly sods.

Sereyus · 19/04/2020 01:54

Bins are disgusting, I clean mine when they get emptied. Kettle water, bleach and a brush to scrub the inside, antibacterial spray for the outside and bin powder in between.

Why? How on earth do you get inside it with a brush?

Do you keep it in the kitchen?
Ours just lives on the drive.

lidoshuffle · 19/04/2020 06:51

I jet wash mine when i clean the car, and Jeyes powder each time it's emptied. Even with double-bagged rubbish it still whiffs especially in summer.

Lllot5 · 19/04/2020 06:55

I clean mine bucket of hot bleach water and a broom. It’s not spotless obviously but I still clean it.

BrightonBB · 19/04/2020 07:00

Washing up liquid and jet washer. Leave it sloshing, make and drink a cuppa then tip it out. Keeps it clean enough for me.

BillywilliamV · 19/04/2020 07:00

Cleaned ours once in 12 years, most waste is bagged. Its the rubbish that smells, not the bin!
