Section 75 refund or just wait

Sorry a dull one
I booked a weekend away with national holidays for my dad as his birthday present at the end of April.
Obviously this has been cancelled. I received an email saying I was entitled to change the booking to another date or get a credit note valid up to 2021.
I emailed back and politely requested a refund instead as no other dates were suitable for him (he is meant to be having an operation in June and will be unable to travel for at least 6 months afterwards)
They emailed back to say they couldn’t issue refunds currently and I would get a credit note and if that wasn’t used by July I could then contact them to discuss my options.
I’m concerned if I accept the credit note they will be within their rights to refuse a refund.
It was booked on a credit card so should be covered under section 75 but I don’t know if I’m being a dick and jumping the gun.

YABU- accept the credit note and wait until July
YANBU- contact credit card provider and issue a refund request

Definitely do not accept the credit note.

Have they said that you aren't entitled to a refund? What do the T&C's say?

I recently attempted to get a refund for flights an airline cancelled through section 75, I was advised by card issuer that as the airline had offered a rebook or a voucher technically they hadn't 'failed to provide the service' so therefore I couldn't make the claim. I would recommend speaking to your card issuer before getting your hopes up about anything.

This was the email I received

Thank you for your email.
We note that you have expressed a desire for a refund rather than the offer to transfer your holiday or the offer of a Holiday Credit Note, unfortunately due to our remote working procedures we are unable to offer a refund at this time, therefore as per your holiday cancellation letter a Holiday Credit Note will be issued after the 17th April.

Your Holiday Credit Note is being issued following the latest advice from Government and the relevant consumer financial protection agencies. Your Holiday Credit Note is valid for holidays departing up to the end of 2021, to the value shown on the voucher, and can be applied to any National Holidays short break or holiday.

If you have taken out insurance on your original booking then this will be applied to your new booking at the time of the redemption of this Holiday Credit Note.

Also, as a thank you for your loyalty, at the time of redemption, a further 10% discount will be applied to your new holiday booking.

Your Holiday Credit Note should be redeemed by the 31st July 2020. If you have not redeemed your Holiday Credit Note by the 31st July 2020 (date subject to change by relevant authorities & Government) then please contact us to discuss other options including a full refund. For your added peace of mind and security, the value of the voucher is fully bonded by the Bonded Coach Holiday Group (BCH) of the Confederation of Passenger Transport. This is a Government approved consumer protection scheme.
