Surely she has got to resign over this? Police all over the country hounding people to ensure compliance and there is the head of the Police force in the most highly affected city of a country on lockdown, standing out in a crowd of public and police leading the thursday night clapping.

WTAF??

A case of "Dick Spotted."
or
"Dick, You're Nicked."

But tame stuff compared to ordering the murder of an innocent electrician on his way to work and doing absolutely nothing suspicious then lying about it.

forsucksfake · 18/04/2020 12:21

Or just end the clapping altogether. I cannot think of anything more meaningless that you could do to support the NHS.

Winterwoollies · 18/04/2020 12:25

I think she was in a difficult position. It was being heavily publicised, she was being filmed and photographed, it’s for the NHS and carers, both of which people are fiercely protective of at the moment, and she should be able to expect the public to follow rules on social distancing. If she’d ‘disrupted’ the event by ordering people apart, it would likely have bred contempt among the crowd and she’d have been criticised for ‘ruining’ an event designed to applaud our clinical health workers. I really think she couldn’t win.

AlliKaneSon · 18/04/2020 12:27

You forgot the ‘is a’ from the title of the thread...

BeetrootRocks · 18/04/2020 12:27

Where was it publicised?
Why was it publicised?
People are not supposed to be gathering!

notimagain · 18/04/2020 12:45

Perhaps she thinks it's pointless stopping people gathering on the bridge when 15,000 people a day are arriving at our airports

Ah that figure - arriving from where?

15000 arriving on domestic flights into UK airports is no more or less of a threat than 15000 stepping off the tube or off a TfL bus...

BeetrootRocks · 18/04/2020 12:49

If the police start deciding not to bother with stuff as it's 'pointless' then where will that get us?

...

Oh, wait... (See her comments about sex crime and look at the stats)

Hopoindown31 · 18/04/2020 12:54

First time I saw footage of the police on Westminster bridge I thought it was stupid. As is gathering people from all over a hospital to stand outside it in one place to clap. It is, at best, awful virtue signalling, and in reality is utterly pointless and irresponsible.

It seems that some people seem to be taking the 2m distance thing to mean that you should go out of your way to find someone to stand 2m away from.

Should Cressida Dick resign over it? No. Should she put a stop to it? Absolutely. As should chief constables all over the UK where police are going out of their way to congregate to do this stupid clapping thing.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 18/04/2020 13:02

Rather like the water-bucket thing, the instant politicians feel obliged to join in is the moment you need to step away and find something else to do.

FliesandPies · 18/04/2020 15:04

Dick, You're Nicked

Or the old classic Green Dock

If she's not going to resign, she should at least apologise for her fucking crass stupidity. Anyone who has been handed a fine by the Met police for breaking the covid rules should tear it up and cite Dick's actions as mitigation.

Cannot believe she said those things, especially with the historic sexual crimes....

Apparently she cant smell weed either Grin

FliesandPies · 19/04/2020 15:50

London Metropolitan Police said: “The Commissioner, along with many other emergency services workers, participated in clapping for key workers last night. A large number of members of the public also gathered to express their gratitude. While many people adhered to social distancing guidance, it appears that some did not. We regularly remind our officers of the importance of social distancing where practical, and will continue do so.”

Move along, nothing to see..

If i was Neil Kinnock's Son, I'd want direct answers from her. How, is going to see your Father on what could be his last Birthday and maintaining social distancing?

Likewise anyone who's been fined. They could easily get a FB group going.

It shows that the Police apply the law when it suits them.
