Sorry to make another thread. I know I put this in my previous thread but I'm so appalled by it that I thought I would put it in it's own thread:

I have just been to Sainsbury's, I had my 21 month old in the trolley. The security man (not employed by Sainsbury's, he was employed for an outside agency!!) at the front of the queue was trying to get me leave my 5 year old on the bench next to him while I went in and did a big shop!!! I asked for the supermarket manager to be called down. He arrived within 5 minutes TBF. He said that there was no restrictions on taking children into the store. He allowed me to take my 5 year old in. My Husband works at the same Sainsbury's as well and he said that the security man was "Unreasonable". He works in the same Sainsbury's and I seen him half way round so I told him then. Before anyone says anything, my husband couldn't do the shopping after he finished work because the shop shuts at 8pm but he is working till 9pm, therefore I had no option but to take my children with me.
Does anyone else think that the security man was unreasonable???

That's DODGY. Hmmmm

Year6teacher754 · 17/04/2020 19:53

@JenNtonic

Exactly, yes it is.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a finger pointer, I just wonder if the suggestion would've been the same had it been a 10 or 11 year old boy.
I guess we don't know what he's been told to do, it just sounds dodgy to me.

StealthMama · 17/04/2020 20:08

Wrong in so many levels. People seem to have lost their common sense - but - don't let it eat you up and move on - everything was fine.

Pelleas · 17/04/2020 20:08

I can't imagine anyone would leave a five year old child with a stranger.

Blackandgreenteas · 17/04/2020 20:36

Ridiculous! But everyone you’ve spoken to in rl has also confirmed this.

Blackandgreenteas · 17/04/2020 20:36

In all probability he’s not a kidnapper, just an officious twat, but still.

Sonichu · 17/04/2020 20:40

So the store manager agreed with you, allowed you to take your child in, your husband agreed with you... where's the dispute here?

Lanurk · 17/04/2020 20:45

Could you not have waited til tomorrow to do the shopping? One of you could go first thing thereby keeping the kids safer at home?

If it really happened then I’d be surprised if the security guy gets away with less than a disciplinary tbh.

Year6teacher754 · 17/04/2020 20:51

@Pelleas
Exactly.

Year6teacher754 · 17/04/2020 20:52

@Sonichu

I was just wondering what other people would have done.

OP posts:
Year6teacher754 · 17/04/2020 20:54

@Lanurk

I would be surprised as well. But he's not employed by Sainsbury's, so they probably can't do much.

You're absolutely right not to leave a child with someone you don't know and trust.

Year6teacher754 · 17/04/2020 21:00

@0v9c99f9g9d939d9f9g9h8h
Exactly.

I think this is probably the easiest AIBU ever Confused

iklboo · 17/04/2020 21:08

What a weirdo. Him, not you.

TheCanyon · 17/04/2020 21:10

Yes the easiest aibu ever, because as you fine well know, you were very unreasonable to take them shopping in the first place.

Year6teacher754 · 17/04/2020 21:17

@Thecanyon
Why was it unreasonable to take them shopping?

OP posts:
Year6teacher754 · 17/04/2020 21:18

@iklboo

Yes he was a weirdo.

OP posts:
TheCanyon · 17/04/2020 21:20

Seriously?

BunnytheHoneyBee · 17/04/2020 21:21

OP what happened was strange but the supermarket manager said you could take your child in to store and you did so why do you need to ask MN if the security guard was being unreasonable?
M

HopeYouStepOnALego · 17/04/2020 21:28

@TheCanyon was OP supposed to leave her 21 month old and 5 year old at home alone then while she went shopping? Her DH is a key worker so couldn't mind them. If his hours are anything like my DDs then he'll be working the weekends too. Ridiculous for you to say she was unreasonable to take them shopping.

TheCanyon · 17/04/2020 21:35

He works in the supermarket ffs, do you think he works 24/7? She has NO excuse to expose herself or children even more by going.

We got it from dh going to chemist/supermarket.

Year6teacher754 · 17/04/2020 21:42

@thecanyon

Your opinion is very welcome, but unfortunately I had no choice but to take my 21 month old and my 5 year old with me.

Year6teacher754 · 17/04/2020 21:42

@HopeYouStepOnALego
