It makes me cringe

Kids I can just about cope with, kiddies is awful. Refer to my DSs as 'chilblains' or 'the boys'.

gibberish · 14/09/2007 18:10

Kids is vaguely acceptable but I do feel slightly soiled if I use it... kiddies is awful - irritatingly pretentious imo.

Kiddo and rugrats

lionheart · 14/09/2007 18:13

YANBU.

heifer · 14/09/2007 18:17

Not for me either - but I also not keen on kids.

As I only have 1 I tend to say her name, and when speaking to friends etc, I tend to say your 2 or 3 ie are you taking your 2 to the park today?

Have to say that I am not sure I have ever heard anyone I know say kiddies (or maybe my subconscious has drowned it out)...

Caroline1852 · 14/09/2007 18:23

I don't like kiddies (it conjures paedophile for some reason), I don't like kids either.
In our house my big boys (15 and 11) are chaps and my youngest two (21 months and 8 weeks)are the beasts .

tori32 · 14/09/2007 18:33

I don't like 'kids or kiddies' much and tend to use 'the girls' or 'little ones'.

Anna8888 · 14/09/2007 18:34

Hate "kiddies", hate "kids".

I talk about "the children", "the boys" and "my daughter".

kindersurprise · 15/09/2007 06:57

I don't mind "kids", but "kiddies" is just bleaugh! Can't stand "hun"

My family also talks about the "weans". I normally call them the "monsters".

I use the kids, the monkeys or those little brats. Also say the girls but in my head I hear Sally Webster whining "the girrrrls" so I try to avoid it.

Tommy · 15/09/2007 09:23

Another one who doesn't like kiddies, or kids.

I say "boys" when I am talking to mine collectively and children when I am talking about them to someone else.

I did start referring to DS1 and 2 and Thing 1 and Thing 2 a la Doctor Seuss but DS1 didn't like it at all!

Cammelia · 15/09/2007 11:34

Of course I was joking when I said it should be kiddo

I refer to my dds by their names in the specific

Or if talking generally, children

mylastrolo · 15/09/2007 12:16

kiddies is not good!! kids ok ish

specialmagiclady · 07/01/2008 14:52

Kiddies is what Linda Snell would say, and is therefore IMO completely boak. I see nothing wrong with kids, though.

Sometimes you want to use more than one word for the same thing. I say "my husband" sometimes, other times I use his name and sometimes I call him the other'arf, which started off as a joke and then got into ocmmon parlance somehow. [cringe]

TheIceQueen · 07/01/2008 14:57

always refer to my as "the boys".......or when we're leaving Morrisons "BOYS"!

Was rather pleased when DC3 turned out to be a boy as it meant I didn't have to change it LOL

fryalot · 07/01/2008 15:07

trust me, there are worse things I could call my lot

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 07/01/2008 15:43

Don't really care - not something I have ever thought about TBH! Now moist is a word I really, really hate!!

MamaD · 07/01/2008 16:20

My dh always says "Morning Gulls" to me and dd when he (finally) gets up. It really, really grates on me for some reason and I now have the fixed grin as soon as I hear him walking down the stairs!

One of my work colleagues always talks about 'the child' when discussing her (one and only) ds - I always wonder why she just can't say his name....

bohemianbint · 07/01/2008 16:23

kids = ok

kiddies + tots = revolting.

YANBU!

FuriousGeorge · 07/01/2008 22:35

yanbu. When we were little,if anyone referred to us as kids or kiddies,my mother would glare at them & frostly say.'They are my children, not small goats'.
