YANBU.
It should be "kiddiewinks"

seeker · 14/09/2007 11:36

I have a friend who says "littlies" ANd another who talks about her "smalls"

Both make me want to hit them with a wet kipper.

castille · 14/09/2007 11:36

Ah yes, so much easier if they are all one sex. Now that we've got both I say children all the time and that sounds just a little bit pompous

although I do it myself - I hate it when you say 'the boys' or 'the girls' especially when you get it on greetings cards - from Bill, Betty and the girls

yuk!

kittylouise · 14/09/2007 11:37

My dp calls them the vermin. As in "come on. vermin 1 and vermin 2" When dds was 2 he said "We's not vermin we's peoples" BTW - does that make him G and T........oh, sorry, wrong thread!

margoandjerry · 14/09/2007 11:42

my brother in law calls them "that couple of idiots" .

Never kiddies. Possibly kids. Also never DC, DS, DD. Am not 50s housewife.

castille · 14/09/2007 11:51

Speccy - I know, but after years of saying "girls", having now to say "children" sounds a bit, well, formal, I feel like a 1950s nanny for some reason

pointydog · 14/09/2007 11:55

lots of peopl,e on mn don't like 'kids' so I don't think you will be thought of as unreasonable

MerryMarigold · 14/09/2007 12:01

i always say kid, but not 'kiddie'. that's reserved for old lady in the shop round corner, don't mind it when she says it, but it doesn't sound right on someone of our generation.

pmsl at 'smalls' - isn't that underwear?!

'children' or 'child' is a bit formal. as in, arranging with mates to go out and say, "managed to offload your 'child' yet?". you cannot be jokey or chatty with the word 'child'. neither with 'adult'. would rather say 'grown up'.

I hate the fact that the M&S website calls its children's clothes section for 'Kids'.

Also hate it when people change/shorten my ds's name. Have clamped down with the in laws on this so now they exchange glances with each other when they see us as if to say 'here is the killjoy control freak woman.'

southeatsastras · 14/09/2007 12:10

hate kiddies it's not right! is it

quiveutmabonnebaguette · 14/09/2007 12:13

Why is it so wrong to say kids ? Kiddies ? I say it all the time, it's part of the english language ladies !
