I was stood outside supermarket.
A youngish man came right behind me.
Immediately I panic a bit and try and step a tiny bit forward as the line moved.
Then he coughed so I moved forward again.
Once again he moved forward.
So I snapped and said
"Sorry do you mind stepping back a bit, your too close and you need to keep a distance"
He gave me a dirty look and moved a tiny bit back.
I said thanks
What's so hard about keeping space between each other ?
Why can't some people manage it.

Yes. I shouted at them to step back. I was sobbing and shaking with emotion.

Ponoka7 · 17/04/2020 12:31

I done it from before lock down. It's the only reason that i sometimes get a shopping trolley.

I've also had disagreements about opening bus windows.

I think Security guards should more be part of enforcement. In my DD's shop, someone will be asked to leave, if they don't adhere.

richteasandcheese · 17/04/2020 12:32

Why on earth were you sobbing? I had to politely ask an elderly couple to move for me once and I've used a trolley to hold my space in Tesco when someone was trying to pass too close

StrawberryBlondeStar · 17/04/2020 12:32

Someone told me I was a “complete dick” for stopping and moving to the side as they were walking round the supermarket oblivious to any social distancing. Dread to think what they would have done to me if I’d ask them to stay back.

Lucked · 17/04/2020 12:32

Why snap and shout? Why not ask nicely in a friendly fashion? Yes everyone should be aware but some people daydream or forget.

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 17/04/2020 12:32

I did in the supermarket, a woman leaned right over my shoulder, I said 'excuse me can you please keep your 2m distance', she said 'there's no need to be snappy', I said 'they're playing a reminder every two minutes it's not hard to keep 2 metres away' , she said 'it doesn't matter I've been at work all day', I said 'in that case you should know better and so have I been at work all day'. She stropped off bright red in the face.

borislovesme · 17/04/2020 12:32

In M&S they said only 2 people to a aisle as you entered.
Yet people weren't listening.
I had 5 people in at one point
I grabbed things and left fast
People don't listen

I'd forgot getting on and off the bus as well. I've made complaints to bus operators and one head office, because a shop opened adjacent tills.

JKScot4 · 17/04/2020 12:34

I was sobbing and shaking with emotion
I’m really hoping that’s a joke 🤣

winterinmadeira · 17/04/2020 12:34

Yes I have and I make no apologies about it.

DieSchottin93 · 17/04/2020 12:35

Sobbing and shaking with emotion? Sounds like a bit of an overreaction Confused

StatementKnickers · 17/04/2020 12:36

Yes, I have told people to step back, though not while "sobbing and shaking with emotion" - do you do your weekly shop in the Sistine Chapel @BirdieFriendReturns ? Grin

The pandemic makes it very easy to spot idiots...

Sennetti · 17/04/2020 12:37

2 people to an aisle? But where does everyone wait whilst waiting for one to move out of the aisle? All congregate at the end of aisle waiting?

How stupid! They must be letting too many in at once then, money grabbing m&s!

BirdieFriendReturns · 17/04/2020 12:37

This is Mumsnet - why are other people allowed to “literally shake” on here but I’m not. Sad. Sad

borislovesme · 17/04/2020 12:39

I think they were only letting 30 people in at once
Then once one left ,one more were let in

I haven’t yet although I wish I did as some bloke on a bike cycled right up behind me and dd yesterday evening in a massive field so we stepped out of the way and the fucker just kept on going ,not even a thanks !
Should’ve chucked a stick through his spokes

hellsbellsmelons · 17/04/2020 12:40

Oh yeah.
'Woah, Back up buddy' - is my normal go to.
I also had a go at a woman in the Supermaket who was picking up every pack of brocolli and putting it back.
'Just look and pick one, WTF are you doing?'
She took one and got out of my way!
Honestly, people are idiots at times!

Chillicheese123 · 17/04/2020 12:42

Sobbing and shaking ?

Jesus Christ. Is that the poster who broke down in the sistine chapel?!

ShirleyPhallus · 17/04/2020 12:42

Why are people on MN so dramatic?!

BirdieFriendReturns · 17/04/2020 12:42

Sobbing and shaking is a key feature of Mumsnet.

kitk · 17/04/2020 12:42

A guy almost walked backwards into me in the supermarket and I asked him to watch where he was going and keep back a bit. He told me it wasn't his fault he couldn't see me. Erm... you're walking backwards mate and I'm not exactly a slip of a girl... 😂

Chillicheese123 · 17/04/2020 12:43

@Ponoka7 you sound like you have a lot of time on your hands

rowlett · 17/04/2020 12:47

Yes, when I was still at work in a supermarket (off at the moment) we did have to ask several customers to please step back and not ignore the signs, and were almost unilaterally met with abuse for it. One standout memory was a man who said "well I didn't FUCKING know". Presumably this was his first visit out from under his rock?

Pandamumium · 17/04/2020 12:48

I haven’t shouted but I did give a ‘hard stare’ to a man who tried to stand between myself and another woman who was choosing onions. I had stood to one side so as not to be too close to her and he tried to stand in the gap.
He did step back.

Tootletum · 17/04/2020 12:48

Geez get over yourselves.
