Great video near St.Thomas' Hospital. Lots of the public and police all gathered together clapping.

And for some reason, London has a lot more cases than elsewhere in the country.

Clapping is great. But I wonder how many people will catch it from others at this gathering?

Hi fellow local friends! Has anyone been to a and e at all? Is it crazy busy or walk in centre? Really hoping there is a dentist at one of them to remove my tooth. In absolute agony

MeerkatMolly · 17/04/2020 07:19

@12stepCAKE. Have you tried calling the walk in centre in Crawley? Very helpful.

IrisAtwood · 17/04/2020 07:19

@cdtaylornats To protect the NHS vote Tory

Thanks for that. I needed a laugh.

Suchafaff · 17/04/2020 07:22

Three members of my family work in the NHS my sister is a staff nurse and she is helping fight this virus on a daily basis.

So whilst I clap with pride for a couple of minutes on my doorstep, I don't get why it is now becoming a huge hoopla....people banging pots, blowing horns, setting off fireworks.

Yes I believe these people are super heroes, but at 8pm kids are in bed. We can show our respect without giving every tired parent out there another hour of trying to get their kids back to sleep....sorry for the grumpy post.

verybritishproblems · 17/04/2020 07:23

The Met Police were there and doing nothing too. I have reported a breach of Coronavirus rules on the Met Police’s website Grin

@12stepCAKE last time we needed an emergency dentist we had to go through 111 and they sent us to Ewell.

gerbilgirl · 17/04/2020 07:29

I have just woken up and seen the pictures and video and just can't believe it!! Angry

Last night we did clap for carers outside our front door as we have done each week. Our 9 and 5 year olds were allowed to stay up for it. Our 9 year old has a couple of classmates who live in our road and we are letting them wave and say hi from ends of driveways which is a strange for them when they normally play outside together.

I just don't have words for how I feel about Westminster Bridge last night. I am so angry that people were allowed to gather like that and heartbroken at the sacrifices some are making whilst others do things like this.

12stepCAKE · 17/04/2020 07:38

Just spoke to 111 she said no dentist. Call your own for more antibiotics if not push go for stronger painkillers. Sad

madcatladyforever · 17/04/2020 07:40

Nobody is wearing a mask either.

donquixotedelamancha · 17/04/2020 07:41

I think that is unfair to post that video on here, the police probably have to work together, in pairs, in groups

That video shows a large crowd from several different organisations. Inevitably it is going to cause some transmission. It undermines the message from the government and breaks the law.

I think that video is worse than OP's because it's an officially organised event.

Ivebeentohellanditscalledikea · 17/04/2020 07:43

@12stepCAKE that's not great hope you can get it sorted soon. Toothache is horrible.

SavoyCabbage · 17/04/2020 07:43

I was driving home last night just before eight and there were crowds outside our local fire station, firefighters everywhere and the police and all the lights were going. I thought there had been an incident but when I got home and the pan banging started I realised there had not.

And I live somewhere where our council run country park has asked people to post photos on its website of cars that might have driven to the park so they can ‘name and shame’ them.

PegLegAntoine · 17/04/2020 07:51

Biscuit for all the fools who thought this was a good idea and an extra one for the ones who took children there and for the police

Yep and some more for those who set off fireworks - I wonder if there have been any injuries from them so far? There must be loads of extra hospital visits on November 5th and New Year.

The clapping has always been about the clappers not the NHS

God, so much this. The first time was a lovely idea, now it’s just because as a nation we don’t know when to stop, apparently.

Did the clapping for children ever actually happen? I didn’t see anything about it other than FB posts/MN mentions before it was due.

EricaNernie · 17/04/2020 07:52

the nhs staff work together, the police work together, yes, it looks like they were standing in their teams, little point in distancing from your team

Surroundedbyeediotics · 17/04/2020 07:56

You can’t catch it if you’re virtue signalling

Griselda1 · 17/04/2020 07:56

It's out of control without a doubt. If I were a lowly paid carer in a nursing home I think this would certainly show me my place. Their residents are lucky to even make it to a hospital.
The deification of nhs workers is understandable but not necessarily positive.

Surroundedbyeediotics · 17/04/2020 07:58

It also goes completely against everything the police have been doing in regards to moving people on. This clapping has to stop now

EricaNernie · 17/04/2020 07:58

it is not just doctors and nurses, also porters, housekeepers, a very sobering thought. Sad
the virus does not discriminate

verybritishproblems · 17/04/2020 07:59

I think the issue is with the members of the public. Loads of them stood almost shoulder to shoulder, no social distancing, no adhering to the rules. They won’t all be from the same household. Then you’ve got the hypocrisy if the police stopping people sunbathing 10m from others in a park and then this. Makes a mockery of it all.

verybritishproblems · 17/04/2020 08:01

You can’t catch it if you’re virtue signalling

Nailed it

EasyLifer · 17/04/2020 08:05

I don't mind the clapping on your own door step if people feel the need to do it, but why fire works? Where are people even buying fire works at this time of year?

YesThatIsMyRealName · 17/04/2020 08:06

"the nhs staff work together, the police work together, yes, it looks like they were standing in their teams, little point in distancing from your team"

So why are the police moving families on if they sit together in the park then?

Besides which we have been told multiple times not to attend gatherings. This is a gathering. If I decided to have a gathering in my local park tonight but we were all standing in family groups, would that be ok?

dottiedodah · 17/04/2020 08:08

TBH this clapping is getting out of hand now! We are out on Thursdays and also supporting a young Doctor who lives near us on Sunday morning as she set off for her shift. All well and good but PPE still not enough(Our young friend is a Doctor in a large hospital ,told to use Builders masks as that was all they could get.She caught the virus unsurprisingly)Now recovered and back at work.We need a miracle ATM nor rounds of applause!

XylophoneSymphony · 17/04/2020 08:12

Idiots, just absolute idiots.

Different rules for different times and places it seems. No consistency

Miraclescometrue · 17/04/2020 08:15

So who are all these people who decided to make their way to Westminster bridge at 8pm, some of them bringing all the family?
