To think a lot of those clapping for the NHS are hypocrites

Just that really.

I’m not even talking about politics here and who voted for what party but the sheer hypocrisy of the some of the people who clap every Thursday for the NHS after consistently ignoring the ‘lockdown’ rules.

The couple over the road have their grandchildren over to stay all day every day, I imagine so their parents can work from home efficiently but that’s not the point.

My neighbour to the right is very pregnant and yesterday sat in her front garden with her partner and toddler and two other friends (no distancing at all)

and then the couple to the left have their parents drive over every weekend and come and stay!

There are others doing the same too! What part of, don’t visit those outs your household, don’t they understand?!?

They are all out every Thursday clapping and it’s just annoying me. I won’t be out tonight because they are all just hypocrites and I’d probably tell them so. DH says I shouldn’t bother what others are doing but I’ve got family working in the NHS and now a friend of the family being treated in critical care. So maybe I’m over sensitive, but I feel like we should care about others being selfish and the hypocritical clapping just winds me up. It’s just so tone deaf and shows how people lack self awareness ... I think some of it just to look good?

Tell me to shut up I’m just annoyed and probably being unreasonable but interested if others feel people are being hypocritical with this too.

Well if you don't know if the visitors, are there on other days how do you know they are not in lock down together @AnathemaPulsifer?apparently my dad's oldest sister is in lockdown with his middle sister (big family) he went least sister has never been married no kids, etc she would be on her own if she hadent moved into the other sisters house

BMW6 · 16/04/2020 22:46

Oh and suspect (and hope) that the Labour Party would kick you out if they had an inkling of the bullying tactics that you are employing.
Cop on to yourself.

Jen4813 · 16/04/2020 22:56

I completely understand your frustration and yes it is hypocritical of them. I have been feeling the same about our neighbour who lives above us - She proudly claps outside the front door every Thursday but has been having her boyfriend (who does not live there) come round and visit. I can’t help but also feel even more irritated by the fact she contributes nothing to the NHS because shes claimed benefits for the last 10 years. Paying taxes and not abusing the NHS by running to the GP or A&E for minor things would be alot more helpful than clapping.

SeaWitchly · 17/04/2020 00:43

I cannot understand why anyone who works for the NHS would vote Tory tbh.

verybritishproblems · 17/04/2020 06:24

Ok so I’ve just seen a video on Twitter of the clapping on Westminister Bridge last night and it seems everything I’ve said is invalid. If you can stand shoulder to shoulder in crowds clapping, with the police then what on Earth is the point of this lockdown/ social distancing. I give up!

  • I don't understand these people who seem to know exactly what their neighbours are doing. I am too busy looking after my children to notice If they are coming or going. You must be sat looking out the window 24/7*

I am. Well almost. I work from home every day on a desk at a window that overlooks the whole area.

Well no surprise she didn't come out again tonight. Hopefully I'll catch her tomorrow when she goes by with her dog. I've already mentioned it on Facebook and people agree that it's not on and I should say something.

What an utterly despicable thing to do, @KathyBriggs360. I suggest you get right back on Facebook and apologise.

ColourMyDreams · 17/04/2020 08:22

@KathyBriggs360 if you came slavering at me you would get a gobfull back.
Just the same as the rest of the holier than thou lockfesters would if they came slavering about my business.

HeidiHoNeighbour · 17/04/2020 08:38

I didn’t clap the first week because I was comforting my cousin (over the phone) after my uncle died due to corona.

They banged on my door, I ignored, next day I get a note through asking me to please clap as he is a photographer and would like to film it for his website and after all it is for NHS.
These are people who constantly have visitors and BBQS.
Last night though, I watched at my window at six neighbours hug in a circle and sing “you’ll never walk alone” it’s a joke.

I gave Capt Tom money for his walk, he is doing it right!

fuckinghellthisshit · 17/04/2020 08:48

People are idiots.
Many years ago I worked in a call centre and there was a group of ‘comedians’ who were so fucking annoying constantly. One year they ‘got dressed up’ for comedic relief. As the spice girls. 5 men, aged 30-70 and t a guess 16-25 stone dressed as ‘the spice girls’ and spending the day entertaining everyone with dance routines which all involved flashing thong underwear and ‘sexy’ moves. I pointedly asked them ‘how much have you raised?’ Which confused them. It has never occurred to them that they had to raise money. They genuinely believed, in their infinite stupidity, that dressing in a miniskirt and forcing your stag night worst behaviour on your work colleagues was in someway ‘helping the kiddies’.

These men will, of course, be leading the claps for the NHS in full dress up regalia, a trumpet in one hand and a saucepan in the other. Fucking knobheads.

Unescorted · 17/04/2020 08:52

Our street came out to clap over the last couple of weeks... and then one of them died and 2 of them are currently in ICU at our local hospital. There weren't as many out last night. I think last night they did more to show support for the NHS than a bit of clapping and infecting each other.

Cathy we had people like you on our FB page insisting that we all come out and having a froth with self important vitriol and hectoring. Perhaps if we had all stayed inside and written a email to our local MP outlining what actions you would like the Government to take to support the NHS through this and in the long term we would not have a man dead and 2 very seriously ill.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 17/04/2020 09:15

Its interesting to me how many people shouldn’t be allowed to clap (according to some comments)

So what do we have

Anyone that voted tory or UKIP shouldn’t vote
Non tax payers
Peope who are constantly in A&E or the doctors (would like to know the criteria for this one)
People who dont take NHS advice
People who are not following the rules TO THE LETTER

Thats got to be 90% of us...including Some NHS staff themselves

Dulra · 17/04/2020 09:23

Clapping aside (I think it less about clapping the nhs and more about supporting each other and coming together atm), I am quite shocked at how much people in the UK seem to be flouting the lockdown rules. I am in Ireland so maybe I am just hearing the negatives but despite your high numbers there still seems to be a sizable minority that are just not getting it. Every country (including my own) have people not sticking to the rules but they are very much in the tiny minority. Is this accurate or am I getting a distorted picture of what is happening?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 17/04/2020 09:32

KathyBriggs is rubbing her thighs in glee at the thought that she's irked/upset some of you. Don't give her that pleasure. Creepy.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 17/04/2020 09:36

lying

Personally i think she’s on a wind up

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 17/04/2020 09:43

Of course she is, Rufus, I can't understand why posters are giving them what they want. Outrage and upset is what gives them their kicks. Ugh.

flirtygirl · 17/04/2020 09:47

You clap for me now video

How many of those clapping are anti immigrant, racist, Brexit voting, tory voting, etc.....

flirtygirl · 17/04/2020 09:54

The NHS is 44% immigrant and bame workers. And was more before Brexit rubbish started in 2016 as lots have left since then.

I imagine that we could do with all those persons who have left, right about now.

HostaFireAndIce · 17/04/2020 09:59

I cannot understand why anyone who works for the NHS would vote Tory tbh.

Well, Labour want to close down independent schools for one thing. That's a lot of doctors finding new schools for their kids!

LolaDarkdestroyer · 17/04/2020 10:04

Yes! They are the only one person and their kid clapping and banging fucking pans is the person that had their grandma over every day..and times walks to meet with her etc so annoying, as I keep saying fuck the clapping and everyone stick to the rules!!! Plus banging your pan at 8 o'clock is waking my 3 year old up. The whole clapping thing is getting cringe, and people I know that are nhs think the same.

Covidiots · 23/04/2020 20:35

Hypocrisy on my estate, many neighbours sticking two fingers up to the NHS by flouting the rules, and then clapping every Thursday.
NHS deserve clapping, for me in the privacy of my own home. They (COVIDIOTS) ignore the rules, having friends and family around and then clapping every Thursdays. Even doing renditions on a keyboard to a greater applause from the neighbours. Some neighbours disappear for days then return. I won’t be joining them.

Mirada · 23/04/2020 20:39

Neighbours out tonight with their grandson (who lives with his Mum, in t'next street)......AGAIN !

Aridane · 23/04/2020 20:50

I don’t see it as virtue signalling but as community. It’s the one opportunity our street all get to see each other and wave!

Cam77 · 23/04/2020 22:20

Next time we join in one of the US wars, there will be calls for people to stand outside and clap for the troops. After that it will be Union Jacks on poles outside houses and whoever dissents to any of this will be antiBritish. Once a country of stiff upper lip pragmatists is fast becoming a land of nationalist hysteria ever more lost in the modern world. And in a couple of years once all this has quietened down we’ll start the job of selling off the NHS to keep the Americans sweet.
