To think a lot of those clapping for the NHS are hypocrites

Just that really.

I’m not even talking about politics here and who voted for what party but the sheer hypocrisy of the some of the people who clap every Thursday for the NHS after consistently ignoring the ‘lockdown’ rules.

The couple over the road have their grandchildren over to stay all day every day, I imagine so their parents can work from home efficiently but that’s not the point.

My neighbour to the right is very pregnant and yesterday sat in her front garden with her partner and toddler and two other friends (no distancing at all)

and then the couple to the left have their parents drive over every weekend and come and stay!

There are others doing the same too! What part of, don’t visit those outs your household, don’t they understand?!?

They are all out every Thursday clapping and it’s just annoying me. I won’t be out tonight because they are all just hypocrites and I’d probably tell them so. DH says I shouldn’t bother what others are doing but I’ve got family working in the NHS and now a friend of the family being treated in critical care. So maybe I’m over sensitive, but I feel like we should care about others being selfish and the hypocritical clapping just winds me up. It’s just so tone deaf and shows how people lack self awareness ... I think some of it just to look good?

Tell me to shut up I’m just annoyed and probably being unreasonable but interested if others feel people are being hypocritical with this too.

I agree with @KathyBriggs360 . If you voted Tory and you clap on your doorstep you are a hypocrite.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 16/04/2020 19:56

yellow

Just that bit of kathys post

Not the trot round to your neighbours and given em hell for not clapping

dayslikethese1 · 16/04/2020 19:56

If I dont do it does that mean I dont appreciate the NHS? I've been on marches against NHS funding cuts, supported NHS friends when they've been on strike, don't vote Tory. Plus I check in with all my friends who work in the NHS to check they're OK etc. I just find the idea of clapping on my doorstep really cringey for some reason.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 16/04/2020 19:57

How does that work kathy

People shouldn't be hypocritical clappers

But if they dont clap youre going to pop round to have a go at them

What if they are not clapping because they dont want To be hypocritical

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 16/04/2020 20:02

It's the fireworks and pot banging that gets me too, FFS stay in your houses, stop finding personal exemptions from social distancing, don't think it's ok to invade someone's personal space because you're wearing an ineffectively applied mask made of an old t shirt. We don't need your clapping we need you to do as you have been asked, and I'd like my baby to stay asleep because I've got to be up before six to go to bloody work in the morning

Chestnut23 · 16/04/2020 20:05

I am so with you on this OP!

x2boys · 16/04/2020 20:13

Why are you a hypocrite yellow ? I used to work for the NHS front line ,they are their own worst enemy they waste the money they do get ,how !such !pre money do you think the government to waste?Who do you think people should vote for to support the NHS ,because Labour started 'the cuts

x2boys · 16/04/2020 20:17

They not you a hypocrite*

RabbitsGoneRogue · 16/04/2020 20:19

We don’t clap either. Firmly in the pointless virtue signalling camp with @formerbabe!

Glaceon · 16/04/2020 20:20

It's the natural human state IMO.

Some people probably see me as a hypocrite but they dont know me or know what I'm even doing so not sure how they're making a judgement as to whether something is essential or not.

recrudescence · 16/04/2020 20:21

Dog frightened again by the fireworks. If you are doing this please go and fuck yourself.

Kuponut · 16/04/2020 20:23

Kids woken up again by the guy opposite who pressed his car horn continuously for a good 5 minutes. It's horrendous here - we get the mutters because we don't do it (would disturb the kids and one is distressed enough about everything at the moment) - and the ones doing it (and of course making a huge deal about doing it) are the ones who ignore all the lockdown all week every week.

Jjjjjj1981 · 16/04/2020 20:27

Totally true here too, the ones banging their pans the loudest are the ones breaking the rules every single damn day!

Anthilda · 16/04/2020 20:30

Well I never go out. I missed the first week and I thought doing it every week is just latching on to yet another thing to post on fb.
I had a firework hit my house tonight. Was it deliberate? I'll never know cos I was busy working at my desk with the blinds closed.

polarisation · 16/04/2020 20:31

I'm not clapping because I'm putting my toddler to bed, and hoping that she doesn't get woken up by fireworks or pot banging.

Heaven help Kathy if she knocks on my door and wakes up said toddler.

Genuinely thinking of making some kind of sign for the windows saying we love the NHS but it's also bedtime. Except we shouldn't have to explain ourselves for a bit of entirely voluntary virtue signalling.

GabsAlot · 16/04/2020 20:36

pass the crack kathy i need a thrill

im not clapping im staying in and doing as im told-clap if you want doesnt bother me

PestymcPestFace · 16/04/2020 20:40

Did a minutes silence because one of my DDs is a nurse.

Samtsirch · 16/04/2020 20:44

To me it’s simple;
Clap if you want to.
Don’t clap if you don’t want to.
Don’t moan about the people who clap, it’s none of your business.
Don’t moan about the people who don’t clap, it’s none of your business.
😁

WhyCantIThinkOfAGoodOne · 16/04/2020 20:46

There's a woman I know like this, consistently votes for a party who cuts funding constantly posts all over Facebook about protecting the economy by removing all lockdowns despite lack of PPE for medcial staff but also loves to post platitudes about how she "supports the NHS".

WhyCantIThinkOfAGoodOne · 16/04/2020 20:47

I do think clapping is nice though as most of the NHS workers I've heard from said they like it and it makes the street feel a bit of a community.

GabsAlot · 16/04/2020 20:49

Ive heard the opposite they think its cringey and doesnt help-but we all cant be the same i guess

Livelovebehappy · 16/04/2020 20:50

it’s not just the clapping, but the whooping, tambourine shaking and tapping pots and pans. I have a neighbour whose baby wakes up amongst all this noise - totally inconsiderate and unnecessary.

Mammatino · 16/04/2020 20:51

please don’t judge non clappers. Certainly don’t shame them on FB or go to their houses. You don’t know why they aren’t out there. I suffer with BPD and I am supported wonderfully by the nhs. I can’t go out to clap I really can’t, you could cause someone to really hurt themselves by your unthinking judgements.

Alsohuman · 16/04/2020 20:52

The only NHS staff I’ve come across who reckon they don’t like it are on MN. I used to work in the NHS so I do know quite a few.

StealthPolarBear · 16/04/2020 20:55

People who complain about their neighbours not doing it
Do you ever think they might be in bed with coronavirus?
