To think a lot of those clapping for the NHS are hypocrites

Just that really.

I’m not even talking about politics here and who voted for what party but the sheer hypocrisy of the some of the people who clap every Thursday for the NHS after consistently ignoring the ‘lockdown’ rules.

The couple over the road have their grandchildren over to stay all day every day, I imagine so their parents can work from home efficiently but that’s not the point.

My neighbour to the right is very pregnant and yesterday sat in her front garden with her partner and toddler and two other friends (no distancing at all)

and then the couple to the left have their parents drive over every weekend and come and stay!

There are others doing the same too! What part of, don’t visit those outs your household, don’t they understand?!?

They are all out every Thursday clapping and it’s just annoying me. I won’t be out tonight because they are all just hypocrites and I’d probably tell them so. DH says I shouldn’t bother what others are doing but I’ve got family working in the NHS and now a friend of the family being treated in critical care. So maybe I’m over sensitive, but I feel like we should care about others being selfish and the hypocritical clapping just winds me up. It’s just so tone deaf and shows how people lack self awareness ... I think some of it just to look good?

Tell me to shut up I’m just annoyed and probably being unreasonable but interested if others feel people are being hypocritical with this too.

Ha, my nhs worker friend isn't social distancing or sticking to the guidelines whatsoever. But goes out to join the clapping and gets overwhelmed with joy at the neighbours all clapping Hmm

LEELULUMPKIN · 16/04/2020 15:50

My MP is/was a junior Dr in A&E. He is Tory.

Petetongue · 16/04/2020 15:52

Oh yeah, the loud music every Thursday, do they not know that key workers are often shift workers working unsociable hours or are on nights!!!

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 16/04/2020 15:53

going out delivering home made cakes

Well even I’ve done that. I bake a lot so I walk in to the village and leave a tub of it on 2 doorsteps of older women in the village. They are a bit frail to stand baking these days unfortunately but bloody love a lemon drizzle or scone

I don’t see them, I leave the box on the doorstep, ring the door bell and they wave at me from the window

But please tell me where the government guidelines say this isn’t allowed?

See that’s the thing most people moaning on about rule breakers, don’t even understand the rules themselves

artistformerlyknownas · 16/04/2020 16:08

@Ponoka7 @P1nkHeartLovesCake

People I'm on about are out in their car with the DCs driving around delivering them. It's not an essential journey. Lines are blurred a bit I suppose when you're out walking for exercise anyway. I do understand the rules, and the reason for them.

GoofyLuce · 16/04/2020 16:15

If you don't want to clap for the NHS then don't!

I don't know why people on here think theyre better than everyone else because they've never been to A&E 😂 between me, my DP and my DS we have been 3 times in 2 years...does that mean that I don't value the NHS? Because I've used A&E 😂

I clap every week, my DS and DP clap every week. We do it because we appreciate what EVERYONE is doing during this crisis. So what if NHS employees cringe...isn't that what most people do when they're applauded for something because I certainly do 👍

user1471565182 · 16/04/2020 16:21

We have to pretend tories havnt been torching our healthcare system because it makes the greedy bastards who vote for them feel guilty Im afraid.

user1471565182 · 16/04/2020 16:23

I don't recall Labour being mentioned, Countess, but yeah, sure you have....

artistformerlyknownas · 16/04/2020 16:25

@GoofyLuce does that mean that I don't value the NHS? Because I've used A&E

No of course not! But if you were in A&E for a splinter, then yeah I would be a bit Hmm

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 16/04/2020 16:33

Rufus Of course, sorry, my point was more that people have been aghast at me not clapping, as if I'm not supporting the NHS, but to my mind I am

Sorry artist

You’re absolutely right..people are stupid

KathyBriggs360 · 16/04/2020 16:50

I noticed that the person 2 doors down from me on my street didn't come out on either occasions to clap. Odd because I know she still lives there and I see her walking her dog pretty much every day. I'll be checking again tonight and if I don't see her I think I'll be having a word, there's no excuse for not showing up 3 times in a row. At least the hypocrites who vote Tory show the slightest bit of decency, even if it's a hollow gesture.

PorpentinaScamander · 16/04/2020 16:54

Im not clapping. Just had a slight disagreement with my brother about it. Hmm

GoofyLuce · 16/04/2020 16:55

@kathybriggs360

Shock you can't force people to clap! I join in clapping but wouldn't dream of making anyone else do it.

Can't fucking believe what I've just read 😂

I'm not clapping anymore. We live opposite a police lady who lives alone and she has had car upon car of visitors daily. Totally fucked off with it now! It's a piss take :( sick of people flouting rules to suit

formerbabe · 16/04/2020 16:59

I'm going to assume this is a joke

Alsohuman · 16/04/2020 17:01

Of course it’s a bloody joke.

underneaththeash · 16/04/2020 17:02

@KathyBriggs360 - luckily there were few people who agreed with you at the last election.

underneaththeash · 16/04/2020 17:03

Incidentally, I don't know of a single person who does "cheat" clearly the folks in South Bucks are very law abiding.

PorpentinaScamander · 16/04/2020 17:03

@KathyBriggs360 could be one of my neighbours (if she was serious). Last week they were shouting, cheering, clapping, letting off fireworks and shouting "dont worry NHS. Some of us appreciate you even if the others don't".
I was considering sticking my head out until then Grin

KathyBriggs360 · 16/04/2020 17:24

Why would I be joking? People are putting their lives on the line every single day just to keep people alive and the least we can do is spare two minutes of lives every week just to show our appreciation don't you think? Those that don't turn out clearly don't care otherwise they would and so why should we care about them?

formerbabe · 16/04/2020 17:32

@KathyBriggs360

Whether your neighbour comes out to clap or not is none of your business. We don't live in a police state, this isn't North Korea. I don't clap...not because I'm not grateful but because I think it's pointless, cringeworthy, virtue signalling nonsense.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 16/04/2020 17:33

You got some front I will give you that @KathyBriggs360

verybritishproblems · 16/04/2020 17:36

If you don't want to clap for the NHS then don't!

I do and will in my house. I just can’t stand out with hypocrites who are selfishly flaunting the rules and then clapping. I’m afraid I’ll say something and I have to live here.

I’m sure NHS workers would rather we obey the laws than clap anyway.

OP posts:
verybritishproblems · 16/04/2020 17:41

Well your neighbours sound like twats but they can be twats who appreciate the NHS.

I know what you’re saying but by breaking the rules they are likely putting NHS workers lives at risk and adding to the overburdened health system (if they get it and are hospitalised) not sure how they can appreciate the NHS and not realise this?
