to think that their must be something in the air outside that means people must struggle to hear their music

Because that's the only reason I can see why people play music extra loud outside.

Something in the air must specifically stop people hearing their music as well as they do inside.

Unless... and here's a thought.
Some people are just selfish bastards who don't give a shit about others.

Lucky enough here that we don't have any twats with tinny speakers, but mother-in-law is having a dreadful time with two near her.

What we do have is people having shouted conversations down the street from each other's gardens, mostly swapping TV/movie tips or offering to do shopping for each other, so it's quite sweet really. Fortunately self-limiting when voices give out eventually... Grin
