I appreciate some people have dyslexia, SEN etc etc and this is not a dig at people with those problems but for the love of god, why can the majority of people not spell?!
It's not he's when you want to say his.
It's not discusting, it's disgusting.
If it belongs to them, it's their's, not there's
It's know if you know something and no if you're saying no to something.
It drives me fucking potty! We all have our strengths and weaknesses but these mistakes are constant on these threads.

I'm pretty sure it's never ever "their's", but I take your point.

Pelleas · 16/04/2020 11:02

If it belongs to them, it's their's, not there's

It's 'theirs' actually - no apostrophe needed.

Blueuggboots · 16/04/2020 11:03

Ha!! Sorry, I'll get my coat!!! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I don't think the internet is for you if less educated people wind you up this much.

What are you doing to try to overcome your irritation?

HopeYouStepOnALego · 16/04/2020 11:07

I'm surprised at how many people don't know to make it 'an' instead of 'a' when followed by a vowel. I see a lot of (for example) 'a exception' or 'a idiot'. Maybe it's because when speaking the 'a' sometimes gets pronounced as 'er', but drives me potty nonetheless.

MikeUniformMike · 16/04/2020 11:07

YABU. I should be In Pendant's Corner Grin

MikeUniformMike · 16/04/2020 11:08

skulks back to Pedant's Corner

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 16/04/2020 11:11

I don't understand the "of" instead of have thingBlush Don't people see the correct version and think to themselves "hold on. Is it of or have? Ah. It's have!"? I have abysmal syntax, commas and articles all over the place, but when I am doing something wrong and then see it consistently written the correct way, I try hard to use it correctly after. I have seen the of used in "I of seen" tooShock

Pelleas · 16/04/2020 11:11

It's "Pedants' Corner" - for multiple pedants, not just one. Grin

Thighmageddon · 16/04/2020 11:11

Hahaha it's always the best entertainment when someone berating spelling errors demonstrates how easy it is to get things wrong in their Op Grin

Pelleas · 16/04/2020 11:13

It's a law of the internet that any post criticising spelling and grammar shall itself contain at least one misteak. Wink

Thighmageddon · 16/04/2020 11:17

misteak thanks for that because now I want a nice juicy steak 🥩

MikeUniformMike · 16/04/2020 11:18

In deed. Grin

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 16/04/2020 11:18

😂

Cosmos45 · 16/04/2020 11:19

Mine at the moment is "myself" instead of me or I. I got an email saying "if you would like to speak to myself about it than we can arrange a call" and it made me irrationally angry..

So, myself works with Millennials. Can I reach out to themselves to stop hurting my eyes and ears?

It is not "Myself and Mike", and do not reach out to me when a message or e-mail will do.

So, having got myself high rate, of I mention tense?

Cosmos45 · 16/04/2020 11:25

@MikeUniformMike I here you.. Grin

JKScot4 · 16/04/2020 11:26

The one I see more and more is ‘brought’ instead of ‘bought’.
Completely different meanings!!!

MinorArcana · 16/04/2020 11:26

Some of it’s down to autocorrect.

Although I do know one person who always, always, uses “A” instead of “I”.
So e.g. posting “A went to the park” instead of “I went to the park”. I know it’s trivial but it’s baffling and annoying me in equal measures.

Her name doesn’t start with an “A”. Neither do any of the names of her immediate family.

Minesacider · 16/04/2020 11:28

Hahaha! Your OP did not fail to please, thanks for giving me a laugh for the morning.

Cosmos45 · 16/04/2020 11:30

My other constant at the moment is when people are agreeing to posts on FB (community page specifically) and comment "here here"..

araiwa · 16/04/2020 11:36

Its a post not an essay or professional piece of writing. Ive noticed my own mistakes afterwards because i wasnt really concentrating.

I dont care as long as its generally understandable

ViciousJackdaw · 16/04/2020 11:50

It's not misspellings that annoy me, nobody is perfect, but using the wrong word altogether causes problems. Yesterday, I told a poster who said she was 'weary' to speak to the GP if she was TATT. Turns out she was 'wary'. Also offended someone at an old job, she made a note on a case stating 'This is been looked into'. Had to check if it had been or is being looked into.

Also, 'alot'.
