To think the Tesco 80 item limit is daft?

Doing a weekly food shop for a family of 4, plus getting a few bits for my parents. I’ve easily hit the 80 item limit and so am now going to have to go to a shop to get all the other bits I need which defeats the object of delivery!

AIBU to think 80 items isn’t a huge amount for a family?

Tesco midnight. Get in the Q about 11.40/11.45....

If you get a slot, its for the 6th May

maddy68 · 15/04/2020 23:57

I had a Tesco last week. Not t been able to get a slot previously. I got 80 items very quickly. Stupid rule. I do understand no more than 3 of an item etc. But 80 items is nothing for a family

caringcarer · 16/04/2020 00:02

This seems a silly rule to me as it means either people will want an extra slot and it is hard enough to get one let alone two, or else will go to other shops and so going out more. More chance of contacting deadly virus. I just hope Morrison's don't start this rule.

Butterymuffin · 16/04/2020 00:03

Because they don't do multipack anymore either (to save on plastic) you also need to order things like tins of beans and tinned tomatoes individually*

I've got a multi pack of tinned tomatoes coming tomorrow. I'm looking at It on my screen right now. There's no plastic, the outer wrapper is card. Don't know what this is all about! If multi packs are out of stock that's different.

For those lamenting the fact that only single pieces of fruit are available, may I suggest switching to tinned fruit for the moment?

Watertorture · 16/04/2020 00:31

I got a slot for the 6th of May. I have tried many nights before though with no success! I think joining the queue earlier is a good plan. But as I said, they haven't always release the next available day at midnight.

PyongyangKipperbang · 16/04/2020 00:34

I didnt manage it tonight. Back in the queue tomorrow

namechangenumber2 · 16/04/2020 00:37

It is a pain but better than nothing. It is just about enough to feed the four of us ( the joy of teenage boys) with a bit of imagination!

What I do find frustrating is that it's likely some things will be missing - I wish there was an option to have a "back up list" . So if something is unavailable, leaving a space then an item can be taken off your back up list. I know you can add sub options but I unless I know what isn't going to be available I wouldn't know what to sub!

JustStayHome · 16/04/2020 00:37

When you go on there, if no slots, check a different day and then go back on the latest date available, afew times it sometimes comes up after afew tries...

Also the app sometimes says no slots when on the normal website theres slots available

BubblesBuddy · 16/04/2020 00:42

Or go shopping? The majority of us with no slots ever are still alive! Unless you are old or on the vulnerable list - go shopping! It probably won’t kill you.

JustStayHome · 16/04/2020 00:44

@BubblesBuddy

We are talking about extremely vulnerable / people that are shielding completely

BubblesBuddy · 16/04/2020 00:48

Or ask neighbours to supplement? Or volunteers to help! There are ways around it. Also the OP didn’t say anything about shielding. Just couldn’t buy enough with 80 items.

PyongyangKipperbang · 16/04/2020 00:53

My parents are shielding as dad is on the list, its them I am trying to get a slot for.

ZombieFan · 16/04/2020 00:54

Completely fair, it get more deliveries to more people. It stops bulk buying. No one in the UK is dying of starvation. 80 items per delivery is more than enough to feed a family.

JustStayHome · 16/04/2020 00:56

@BubblesBuddy

I wasnt talking about everyone....

Neighbours / volunteers?

Not everyone lives in areas where there are volunteers and certainly not nice neighbours....

lyralalala · 16/04/2020 00:58

@PyongyangKipperbang If you are awake can be worth trying after 2 as that's when the slots people don't check out become available again

PyongyangKipperbang · 16/04/2020 01:00

Thats a really handy tip @lyralalala

Thank you :)

BubblesBuddy · 16/04/2020 01:02

So not a single person/organisation can help? My mother is 96. We don’t have a delivery. Never got a slot. Neighbours and friends have helped out. Several families stuck offers of help through her door. They live in the adjacent road. Councils are co- ordinating volunteers. It’s been manageable.

JustStayHome · 16/04/2020 01:02

@lyralalala

Yes , wanna gonna say this 😁

Ladiva1971 · 16/04/2020 01:46

OP did not say that they were vulnerable so just go shopping like the rest of us.

nanny2012nanny · 16/04/2020 02:00

Your lucky to get a slot some of us can’t book one for 4 weeks

Peppafrig · 16/04/2020 02:06

I think it's a great idea and better for more people to get some food than less people get more food. I guess it just means treats and stuff need left off. But that's preferable to vulnerable people going hungry.

PyongyangKipperbang · 16/04/2020 02:07

Thank you! Got one for 6 May for them, there were quite a lot.

lyralalala · 16/04/2020 02:12

@PyongyangKipperbang Brilliant :)

FlamedToACrisp · 16/04/2020 02:13

PyongyangKipperbang · 16/04/2020 02:13
