To ask how to measure kids feet in lockdown

Just that really, ds has some shoes and walking boots that are now snug, would normally get to a place that measures to confirm his size, obviously that is not an option. So just wondering do you just buy the next size up or is it possible to measure to get the correct size?

There are lots of online guides. You just measure in millimetres.

There’s a shop local to me who are offering remote shoe fitting for DCs. The lovely lady who owns it is a qualified shoe fitter and is passionate about making sure kids have the right shoes. Maybe give them a call and see what she says. It’s called Shoedini in Milton Keynes.

You can buy a foot measuring thing or you can use a measuring tape then use a calculator online.
Except for the first couple of times, I've always measured ds feet myself.

Start rite have a guide you print and then use an app. I’ve not used it before though

You can buy a foot gauge from Clarks website.

There's a section on MoneysavingExpert about this:

Everywhere I've tried has sold out of foot gauges in toddler size - although you might have more luck in a larger size. We've eventually managed to use the paper version linked above, although it was a challenge with a toddler who has very ticklish feet!

maternityclothes · 15/04/2020 13:43

@Flev there are loads on amazon

Purpleartichoke · 15/04/2020 14:19

A few years ago I finally broke down and bought a foot measuring gauge. They are very cheap and so much easier than printing a guide or trying to use a ruler on a child’s foot. I wish I had just bought it as soon as dd started needing shoes.

SachaStark · 15/04/2020 14:22

Just don’t ever try children’s shoes on with them sitting on or leaning against anything, as you then won’t get an accurate idea of the fit. First thing we were taught at the children’s shoe fitting course at Clark’s.

A friend sent this to me. I haven't tried it yet.

Tbh it's an imprecise art. Different brands come up differently and you can't always get a wider fit. Compare to your/their own shoes, consider width and go up two sizes for safety esp.if no wider fit available and if needed. Unless he's a grown man that strategy has worked for my teen/preteens!

Or yes online print out!

if gauges sold out, would it work to draw round childs foot and measure the silhouette? Or even just widest and longest measurements.
Might be easier that a wriggly foot to measure.
Clarks have an online 'enter the measurement' tool to determine shoe size.
Alternatively go to a large supermarket that sells shoes - or M&S
