My boss is asking us to work

So a bit of a backstory.

My boss phoned me a few weeks ago telling us he had no option but to furlough us all but he still wants us to work 'under the radar'. I know this is wrong before you all start having a go but I can't afford to lose my job as the market is poor and I have bills to pay.

We don't have him asking us to work in writing and it would be hard to get as he knows he's committing fraud so he's trying to cover his tracks. It's a small business so if I tell on him he would know. I'm stuck in a rut.

I don't like this job anyways and have been trying to leave for months but no luck yet.

AIBU for asking for your advice?

If you collude with this you are defrauding the taxpayer for the sole benefit of this guy’s business.

Don’t do that.

Sorry - you were looking for advice. Difficult to give without knowing g the nature of the business but basically don’t do it because if he defrauds the tax system, what guarantees have you got from this guy anyway? Why do you think he will pay you?

Say you'll be happy to work if he makes up the 20%,so you'll receive Your normal working salary I agree it's definitely bending the rules but you do want a job to come back to

Email him

"Dear Boss, please could you confirm that you wish me to carry out XYZ duties during the period I am furloughed? I understand that whilst furloughed I am unable to carry out certain tasks, so would appreciate clarification from you. Alternatively, if you require me to carry out my role to it's typical level, please confirm that I will not be furloughed".
