What is this flying insect please?

It looks like some kind of fuzzy triangle. Seems friendly!

They've been buzzing around my dandelions recently. Funny little things.

I also love bee flies. They’re so bonkers looking.

Maybe they’re slightly sort of comparable to the sparrow hawk, in that you’re sad for the little bird she snatches (but mostly in awe) but it’s a good sign for the garden bird population in general? This probably means a really healthy amount of solitary bees nearby?
