To think that teething powders and gels do nothing?

I bought two boxes of teething powders and bonjela teething gel yesterday. When I looked at the ingredients, all that's in them are flower extracts and sweeteners! What's more, the boxes are covered with "homeopathic" and "based on traditional use only". This usually means that something is not actually a proper proven medicine in my experience! So, do they work? I have an open mind, I've been told there's no evidence for lanisol or tens machines but they both worked for me. I had just expected teething products to include some kind of painkiller.

Teetha powders were an absolute god send with both of mine!

I used Anbesol liquid and a dose of Calpol for my DC. The Anbesol has lidocaine in it and numbs the area long enough for the Calpol to kick in.

Thank you! Sounds like you all recommend anbesol! I'm glad there's something out there with an active ingredient in it!

Aston and parsons powders worked on all 3 of mine. The teetha ones did nothing. Teething gels normally contain lidocaine which is a local anaesthetic so they will numb the pain too.

Over the counter you can ask for teething gel with anaesthetic.
It avoids giving paracetamol all the time. My DDs were terrible teethers Confused
Actually I always had medicated and natural teething gel. Start with natural and see if that helps. Sometimes just a massage does wonders. They enjoy biting your finger (yes.....). Move onto medicated gel if the baby is really struggling.
If you need to use paracetamol I always found that just half dose takes the edge off.
You can also wet and wring a clean cloth and put it in the freezer for a little bit. That can help.
Good luck!

We found the teething powders worked with dd. She loved them and would open her mouth as soon as she saw the box!

They didn’t with ds. So we used liquid anbesol with him
