Ok,

Let’s assume every MP is getting £10,000. So that’s £6.5m total. There are 1.1m FTE staff in the NHS. So they’d get £6 each. Or if you only want to give the nurses money, 311,380 of those in March19 (FTE). So £21 each.

Does your sensationalism feel worth it anymore?

feebeecat · 14/04/2020 13:09

so if we gave nurses a pay rise (I'm not suggesting they don't deserve it) then the lockdown is unnecessary and we're just copying other countries for the fun of it?!

Yeah, that makes sense. Or, maybe there might be more staff who stayed working for the nhs, maybe they would be better equipped, maybe we might be able to handle this situation from a better starting point, giving us a better chance at dealing with it effectively.

Maybe if care home workers were better paid, had better equipment or conditions, the care homes wouldn’t be in their current (not counted) state, who knows. Do know that at the moment I feel more inclined to support all medical staff however they may need it, than having a remote thought for the likes of mr weatherspoon/Philip green/Rees-mogg (where have they hidden him?) or any of those listed above

x2boys · 14/04/2020 13:10

The NHS needs to.stop.wasting the money it does get that would be a start ,I was a nurse I didn't think I got paid that badly tbh, first of all there I a very clear pay structure in the NHS but there also clear career progression for people that want it as,a,I are based nurse I didn't just get basic pay , I got shift enhancements and extra for nights and weekends .

Iamthewombat · 14/04/2020 13:10

Which nurse? Does she feel special?

caperberries · 14/04/2020 13:10

The nastiest, vilest people on social media are the left. Go On Twitter if you don’t believe me

I've noticed this

BasicIntentions · 14/04/2020 13:20

Yawn

CoffeeIsMyOnlyJoy · 14/04/2020 14:03

It's fair enough while Boris is saying thanks to nurses to remember he voted against a payrise.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 14/04/2020 14:28

Except that isn't what the OP referring to. Really! It isn't.

Dyrne · 14/04/2020 14:40

Partisan politics really doesn’t help anyone.

Saying all Tories are scum and All Labour policies look out for everyone is simplistic and untrue.

Saying that it’s always the Left who are the absolute worst rather than the Right is simplistic and untrue.

Does anyone who says such polarising statements actually expect people to be able to engage with such a hostile reception? Or it is more important to be right than to actually want to discuss and create change?

Seriouslyastounded · 14/04/2020 16:55

It's fair enough while Boris is saying thanks to nurses to remember he voted against a payrise

He didn’t though.

Bloomburger · 14/04/2020 17:04

Oh FFS the NHS isn't underfunded, it wastes money like no ones business, it is run by idiots who have no idea how to manage budgets or negotiate contracts.

You could give the NHS 100bn extra tomorrow and they'd need another 100bn on top of that next year and the year after and the year after that.

Summersun77 · 14/04/2020 20:12

Op I agree with you. My mum is a nurse and I’ll never forget them cheering, and don’t accept boris and co’s empty cheering every Thursday night.

Maybe should have added @ArnoldBee to the SENSE list too.

FagashJackie · 15/04/2020 03:27

We live in a place with insurance based healthcare. Not America. We are both British and this is the first time that we feel better off with an insurance based model. I love the NHS in principle. Don't like the guys running it. I wouldn't let Hancock run my bath.

BritWifeinUSA · 15/04/2020 04:13

Our nurses are paid an average of $90,000 a year in my state. That’s an average. Many are making more. We are still in a lockdown. It has nothing to do with money. Like Fagashjackie I’m glad I’m not relying on the NHS for my health. The idea was a great one in the beginning. I know people in the UK love the NHS but to me it’s like an old favorite pair of worn out slippers. You love them, you don’t want to change them but they are no longer fit for purpose and a change is needed. The NHS is tired and worn out, completely inefficient.

Angelw · 15/04/2020 05:25

Thanks OP for the information.
Won’t be voting for any of that lot in the next general election.

RandomSelection · 15/04/2020 06:12

Looking back at history and the various parties that have been in power and the mistakes they have made makes me think (Just my humble opinion), that it doesn't really matter which party was going to be in power during this. The NHS would be still overwhelmed, just like in every other country. It's not all about the money, it's just that this virus pulled the rug out from under everyone's feet. No government would have stockpiled so many ventilators or PPE as is currently needed.

Hopefully, lessons will be learnt, but it's an easy cop-out to just blame the government. I think some would have been slagging off Labour if they had been in power because they would have made mistakes too. No-one has done this before, mistakes are going to be made. And of course it's easy for opposition parties to say they would have done it better...

As @Goingunderground2 said, Why not bash the public who waste the nhs time... that would solve a lot of the nhs problems.
I also think that when this is all over, the public need to do their bit. People have said how much quieter some A&E departments have been which makes you think how unnecessary many visits were previously. It's not just up to the government to sort out the NHS, it's up to us too.

Arealmanithink · 15/04/2020 06:17

Heres the truth. Not some twisted idea to reaffirm previously held beliefs.

Seriouslyastounded · 15/04/2020 06:43

angelw

Why? When what the OP said is complete lies?

BalloonSlayer · 15/04/2020 06:52

Nurses pay did just go up on 1st April. A lot of industries didn't get a pay rise.

leafygarden · 15/04/2020 06:56

Op I like your post. 'this is the time for coming together' is total bullshit. This is the time when we will finally realise how underfunded the nhs is, how the Tories have let us down time after time after time. We cannot ignore this. We cannot forget this. We must keep remembering and noticing and then do something about it once we can

Completely agree with this poster and with the OP

10 years of 'austerity' and Tories' crap under funding is 100% fact

Monty27 · 15/04/2020 06:58

Who knew the NHS was underfunded? I did and I'm just a normal person.
Omg the electorate of this country needs to get a grip. It's a tragedy it took a virus to expose it.

leafygarden · 15/04/2020 07:00

@RandomSelection

Have a look how Germany is coping. They have a better funded health service with 4 times as many ICU beds. It seems to be having an effect there.

Still waiting for all those tests that are going to made available - (from around 3 weeks ago....) It's a shambles

Picamyhoney · 15/04/2020 07:00

I’ve not forgotten, and am well aware of the irony of the conservative government calling on us to ‘protect the NHS’.
Also calls me the way the ministers seem to be surprised that the NHS doesn’t have enough of anything given the way they’ve been trying to guy it for years and sneak private healthcare in through the side door.
Fuckers.
