Either way, they’re all wankers. They cut money to essential public services and are (hopefully) now realising just how important those services are.
“We are all in it together” - for the moment. How come they have just written off £13bn of nhs debt? If it was that easy to find the money, why the hell wasnt it done sooner? Oh yeah, they need those services now Hmm I just hope they remember this once it’s all over. I doubt it, but 🤷‍♀️

CuriousaboutSamphire · 14/04/2020 10:35

They wrote it off for the same reason there will have to be a global write off of debt, ffs!

Global virus, global recession.

CakeAndGin · 14/04/2020 10:37

The NHS is under funded. However, even if the NHS was fully funded, they still wouldn’t be able to cope with the current situation because the pandemic exceeds normal admissions. All health services across the world are suffering with the pandemic, no matter how well funded they are.

DdraigGoch · 14/04/2020 10:40

I think I'm just so pissed off that years of NHS and other public service cuts have come home to roost and now we are all stuck in lockdown to protect an over-stretched and underfunded service!
Because no other countries are in lockdown at the moment...

drunkyhumptydumpty · 14/04/2020 10:43

Nothing is making me happier that I voted Tory than these moronic threads.
Thank

acquiescence · 14/04/2020 10:43

Thanks for sharing OP. I have seen this shared on Facebook but others may not have.

For those asking- the point of sharing this is so that people can remember this when they vote at the next general election. The tories have consistently cut NHS services over the past 10 years. I am an NHS nurse and have seen people die as a clear result of services being cut.

Please, please do not vote this party in again. We need consideration to be given to higher rates of taxation on high earners and greater investment in public services to stop being dying.

The clapping for the NHS is starting to make me feel sick when I look at the cuts to the services around me at work, and how it could have been different. The damage has been done over the past 10 years, this is why people are dying unnecessarily now. It’s not because Janet at number 10 went for a walk twice and sat on a bench in the park for 5 minutes.

The government are trying to turn the public against each other to detract from their failings. We obviously need to follow the guidance and stay safe, but if the government really believed more needed to be done to save lives they would enforce a complete lockdown. People would still be dying. It is preferable for them to minimise the restrictions and blame the people so the people done blame them.

sanityisamyth · 14/04/2020 10:55

@ceibatree Ha! Ok, that's me told. Will fact check better in future! I think I'm just so pissed off that years of NHS and other public service cuts have come home to roost and now we are all stuck in lockdown to protect an over-stretched and underfunded service!

So why has every other country gone into lockdown?

Amotherof6 · 14/04/2020 10:56

Indeed.
The NHS has shown it's importance to us now.

Let's hope that when this is over, the ones of us that can 'afford' to pay a bit more in tax will do so for the NHS and social care. Perhaps the tax avoiders etc who actually have huge incomes (companies and individuals) will be made to pay... close all the loopholes. Money earnt in this country should be taxed here and the tax used for the benefit of the country.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 14/04/2020 10:57

the point of sharing this is so that people can remember this when they vote at the next general election then at least be aware of the truth behind it.

It was not a vote against giving the NHS a pay rise. It was a vote against an amendment to the Queen's speech. If you do not believe me Google it...

If you want to persuade anyone to not vote Tory then get the facts straight, or you undo yourself, completely.

Amotherof6 · 14/04/2020 10:59

This
"“We are all in it together” - for the moment. How come they have just written off £13bn of nhs debt? If it was that easy to find the money, why the hell wasnt it done sooner? Oh yeah, they need those services now hmm I just hope they remember this once it’s all over. I doubt it, but 🤷‍♀️"

Indeed, the money to write off the £13bn NHS debt was found. There wouldn't have been that much debt if it was funded better in the first place.......
It will be interesting to see if things change after this ... or not....

CeibaTree · 14/04/2020 11:08

So why has every other country gone into lockdown?

But we had the 'luxury' of seeing this play out in other countries in advance, and the UK government did not close borders or enact social distancing until it was too late. We had in effect the gift of hindsight and did not use it. It was only when it was realised that the NHS in its decimated state would not cope that decisive action was taken.

OP posts:
awkwardbuttons · 14/04/2020 11:16

What makes me annoyed are the recent cuts in capital gains tax and inheritance tax. Not big money raisers but only paid by the wealthy. At the same time as pitiful increases to health and education budgets.

That's nothing to do with coronavirus though. And those who didn't care before, won't care after.

Dyrne · 14/04/2020 11:18

What annoys me most about these bullshit posts is that there are so many actually true things that can be shared to show how shit the Government is, and how badly the Opposition has let us down.

It stops genuine conversations about improvement from happening, as it just gets dismissed with “Fake News” and then descends into Party politics.

The conservatives aren’t my cup of tea, but there are some genuinely decent individuals working for real change, so it doesn’t make sense to write of all Tories as bastards. Likewise, while Labour has some good concepts, they definitely aren’t all sunshine and unicorn farts and there’s little evidence to show we’d have been much better prepared for this if we’d had a Labour government in charge. (Everyone can sit from the sofa and say “Well I bet I could have done it better”. It’s unprovable and unhelpful).

The best way forward is more nuanced and requires genuine challenge, but sharing this over the top partisan drivel that isn’t even true just shuts down conversation before it can even start.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 14/04/2020 11:20

It was only when it was realised that the NHS in its decimated state would not cope that decisive action was taken.

Have you actually looked at the other countries where healthcare is funded differently? They're ALL struggling to cope, doesn't matter where the money comes from.

Baaaahhhhh · 14/04/2020 11:24

I think I'm just so pissed off that years of NHS and other public service cuts have come home to roost and now we are all stuck in lockdown to protect an over-stretched and underfunded service

Which would have been no different if we had paid nurses more, or increased taxes to 80% to pour into the drain that is the NHS.

It needs reforming. Look at Germany. Everyone saying how wonderful it is, and that they spend more money on it. Yes, great. I wouldn't mind spending more money to get that level of service, but guess what, the healthcare is provided by private companies.

BurgerOnTheOrientExpress · 14/04/2020 11:31

@CeibaTree

NHS (Though funding for the Department of Health and Social Care) budgets rose by 1.4 per cent each year on average (adjusting for inflation) in the 10 years between 2009/10 to 2018/19.
Read that carefully... that's extra spending, so no where near a 'cut'.

Source www.kingsfund.org.uk/projects/nhs-in-a-nutshell/nhs-budget

sanityisamyth · 14/04/2020 11:34

@ceibatree so if we gave nurses a pay rise (I'm not suggesting they don't deserve it) then the lockdown is unnecessary and we're just copying other countries for the fun of it?!

SB1189 · 14/04/2020 11:59

I’m shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, that MPs of the party in government voted down an opposition amendment to the queen’s speech. Next you’ll be telling me that they’ve thought up a system of enforcing MPs voting on important matters, and specifically appoint people in each party to make sure they do. It’s outrageous and I demand an immediate protest march.

Seriouslyastounded · 14/04/2020 12:06

The left showing their typical intellect again, I see

VladmirsPoutine · 14/04/2020 12:09

I feel like anyone who votes Tory is not a good person.

Seriouslyastounded · 14/04/2020 12:16

The nastiest, vilest people on social media are the left. Go On Twitter if you don’t believe me

Dyrne · 14/04/2020 12:54

VladmirsPoutine That is just as ridiculous as saying that everyone who votes labour is an anti-Semite and a misogynist. People really are choosing the best of a bad bunch at the moment and although I wouldn’t choose Conservative, I can see why someone might see them as the “least-worst” option locally.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 14/04/2020 12:59

And now the Scottish government (Jean someone, sorry, her name didn't come up) is giving credence to "Scottish NHS supplies to care homes being diverted to the English" it will, she said, be investigated.

So a journalist says 'they have been told...' and rather than diffuse it, maybe it's going to where be it is most needed, rather than Scotland is being robbed, it will be investigated... I think Sturgeon repeated that too.

THIS is why people are scared and angry. Journalists fan the flames and it is impossible for any minister to refute, rebutt as they have to be seen to be doing everything they can. Meanwhile the headlines run..

Sturgeon says she will investigate English theft of Scottish PPE they cry.

And again there will be a lot of take up on social media...

VladmirsPoutine · 14/04/2020 13:02

Dyrne I happen to think a party that's been in power for the best part of a decade and has slashed budgets across all social care fields and still acts as though they are 'for the people' is bullshit. There is an alternative - one which involves all quarters of society; particularly the most vulnerable are looked after. Not assuming that just because you're fine and pulled up your boot straps everyone equally can do the same. If you're part of the establishment of course you don't see that things could be better as they work for you fine. By the way I'm not referring you when I use the term "you".

awkwardbuttons · 14/04/2020 13:04

It would benefit political discourse in this country if we could stop demonising each other and focus on the policies. Politicians (both in government and the opposition) are only as good as the public holding them to account. If we spend all our time criticising the other side of the political spectrum as either stupid or evil, rather than focusing on the issues, we all lose.
