It's bad enough that I'll have to get up to open the door for him (he forgot his keys), I certainly do not want to spend 20 mins waiting for him to arrive in the middle of the night! He was all huffy though...

YABU. He is a MAN, this means he is the centre of your universe, your every waking thought and means it is not at all odd that he should expect you waiting happily at 3am.

I'd leave the keys under the mat and ask him not to wake me. Not to punish him, but because it would be just as easy for him to get in and the household wouldn't be bothered with a ringing phone!

Even if I leave the key under the mat, I just know that dh will expect to have a nice friendly chat about the trip he's been on... while I just want to sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep...
