to be watching with my jaw dropped as Trump goes into full meltdown at his press briefing?

Is anyone else watching this?! He is literally ranting like a man possessed, I've never seen anything like it. He's declared war on the media (I know we're used to him lashing out at journalists but this is on another level)

I'm watching it on CNN and they have breaking news straplines like "Trump uses task force briefing to rewrite history on coronavirus response", "Angry Trump turns briefing into propaganda session" and "Angry Trump uses propaganda video, produced by government employees at taxpayers' expense"

He has just said, verbatim: "When somebody is President of the United States, that authority is total"

I thought our daily briefings were bullshit Shock

CNN cut off his little video (showing how the media have persecuted him) to analyse him. They were beyond incredulous. We watch trump every night and it's genuinely scary, when he uses a big word he continuously uses it and looks proud. They were talking about the tweet about Vauci being fired and he actually said 'it was a long tweet ' I probably hadn't read the full thing. Are you kidding me? Saying that on the economy he's got a higher approval rating then Biden and the American people who've said they'll vote for him have a 70%enthusiasm to actually vote whereas with Biden they've a 50% so the Biden voters are just voting because they have to do something but Trump's actually want him in:(

carriebreadshaw · 14/04/2020 07:42

That deranged Fox News man laughing about CNN headlines?! My god they're all totally mad.

Roussette · 14/04/2020 07:43

The press doesn’t exactly cover themselves in glory either

I'm damn sure if I lived in American I would want the hard questions from them. He isn't a dictator much as he would like to be.

Booboostwo · 14/04/2020 07:46

Let’s not forget that he is in power and he remains in power because he gives the Evangelical right wing Christians exactly what they want. God’s anointed in the White House, voting in an ultra conservative Supreme Court judge and working towards criminalizing abortions. Welcome to Gilead.

Parker231 · 14/04/2020 07:47

What is more worrying than Trump himself, is the millions of Americans who voted for him and continue to believe in him.

ihearttc · 14/04/2020 07:47

There is something else which Trump has done which has got very little press in the UK. There is a drug called Hydroxychloroquine which is a very old anti malarial drug but it now mostly taken for auto immune diseases such as Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Trump has decided on the basis of a few significantly flawed test studies that it is the wonder drug to treat Coronavirus and has ordered mass stockpiling of the drug and has even gone so far as suggesting everyone in the US take it "just in case as it can't hurt" which is crazy as it's a potentially dangerous drug with severe side effects. The upshot of this is that Lupus and RA sufferers in the US can't even get hold of the medication they desperately need so they can function and after collecting my prescription from the pharmacy yesterday it's even affecting the UK as well. They had 1 more box left and can't get any more at the moment.
It's not even been proven to actually help yet Trump has decided that there needs to be a solution and that Hydroxycholoroquine is it!

Totally agree. He was urging people 'take it, take it', take it' in yet another batshit press conference. He has now gone quiet on this after a few sad deaths from people taking it. 20 people in Paris were monitored after being given it, the results were awful.

Even Jon Sopel, BBC North America correspondent, has taken to the gin after attending this. And posted a picture of his supply, after yesterday's press conference. Shock
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-52276004

'Donald Trump walked into the briefing room with scores to settle with the media. This wasn't about the dead, the desperately sick, the people fearful of catching the virus. This was about him. And more particularly his profound sense of grievance that the media has been critical of his handling of Covid-19.
If you think that is an unfair exaggeration, after a few moments he said he was going to play a video. It had been produced by White House staff, even though it bore all the hallmarks of a campaign video. If it was a movie, it would have been called "Coronavirus: Why Donald Trump is Great - and the Media Awful".
If you were watching the news conference on TV, you would have seen the film. But in the briefing room, where I had my vantage point, Donald Trump was alternately scowling at us, then pointing and smiling derisively and then smirking, as if to say, "Look at all you losers - I've nailed you with this".
Contempt seemed to ooze out of every pore.

PicsInRed · 14/04/2020 07:58

The Cure is Forsythia.

That Contagion movie was awfully well researched and scripted wasn't it?

Mimishimi · 14/04/2020 07:59

Please look up the word Einsatzgruppen. This man is a product of that world

BigSandyBalls2015 · 14/04/2020 08:01

Ihearttc - he has a financial interest in the drug

BowermansNose · 14/04/2020 08:02

Why were the press and the rest of the politicians and public, destroying him when back in Jan he banned all Chinese flights??

This is a really weird argument. Given that there are over 500,000 cases and over 20,000 deaths, the one thing he did do (which was criticised for being ineffective) was clearly an ineffective measure.

What is more worrying than Trump himself, is the millions of Americans who voted for him and continue to believe in him.

This is what worries me. I am sure there would be millions of Americans who watched the briefing grinning and cheering as he "owned the libs".

My half-arsed theory is that for many Trump supporters, when he attacks the press, they imagine themselves releasing their anger and having the courage to shout at their ex-wives, their kid brother who went to college and got a better job, or the hispanic family who moved into the street.

lubeybooby · 14/04/2020 08:07

I can't forget that when asked what words of comfort he would say to worried Americans, he said 'I'd say you are a very bad reporter'

I wish the reporter had replied 'and I'd say you're a very bad president'

The people enabling him want locking up. Giant manbaby, incompetent turd.

EngTech · 14/04/2020 08:10

See what the Presidential election results are, November this year I think?

USA, like us, is a democracy, if that is what the people wish, he will be re-elected, simple as that 😳

Roussette · 14/04/2020 08:12

^ This absolutely.
My pic says it all

to be watching with my jaw dropped as Trump goes into full meltdown at his press briefing?
FlowerArranger · 14/04/2020 08:12

What is especially concerning is the fact that many of his supporters actively HATE the very idea of a free press as they see any statements of fact that show up his ignorance and craziness as the work of the devil. And yes, many of them believe in the actual, physical existence of the devil...

Alialialiali · 14/04/2020 08:14

Why were the press and the rest of the politicians and public, destroying him when back in Jan he banned all Chinese flights??

Because, this is ALL he did. And he didn't ban 80,000 Americans travelling in from China at the time

lol, but why is it so hard to ever give him any credit? I mean even a stopped clock is right twice a day but this is where the entire establishment, press, mainstream public fall over. You don't have any credibility when you are unwilling to acknowledge what's right and what's wrong.
When he banned those flights, there was an uproar that he was being racist... now you're saying he didn't do enough. It's laughable.

Call him dumb all you want, and god knows he is, but one thing he's got right (again, by stopped clock theory) is that he called out his
mistrust of the establishment, press and mainstream public, it resonated with a huge number of people.... and bam.. Trump is president. You can wish him away all you want but until people start changing things this is liable to happen again. As we speak, there is an entire generation of politicians being brought up on Trump... it gets worse from here not better.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 14/04/2020 08:19

Hope Paula Reid doesn't find her White House credentials withdrawn.

The press are getting definitely more adversarial, and pushing Trump for answers which I haven't seen before in the USA.

Astoatora54 · 14/04/2020 08:21

It's laughable.

Why? He didn't do enough. His inaction has caused thousands of deaths. Why is that laughable?

When he banned flights he got plenty of support from his favourite news sources. Doesn't mean everyone had to agree with it. At the same time he was also saying that coronavirus was fake news, that people should try an experimental drug is they felt like that. He's not a bloke down the pub, he's the president and people listen to him. More lives lost. Do you not think he should be held to a higher standard than Jo Bloggs?

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 14/04/2020 08:27

He' starting to lash out at Fox. It seems Young Master Murdoch and Younger Master Murdoch are not necessarily big fans.

Could be fun.

Tunnocks34 · 14/04/2020 08:29

It was absolutely insanity. I can’t believe it - it was shocking to see!

LouiseTrees · 14/04/2020 08:31

@ihearttc that’s because he owns shares in the company that makes that drug

Alialialiali · 14/04/2020 08:31

@Astoatora54

Why? He didn't do enough.

Again, complete failure to acknowledge what he did was right and he was vilified for it. It's like you guys saying, I don't care if I was wrong to criticise him, I just want to keep criticising him.
This is what the Trump supporters see.

I detest Trump. But before he was elected, I wished he would get elected because what Donald Trump is, is a mirror. It's the only way for people to see the sorry state of politics. You can say and do what you want, it doesn't matter if it's right or wrong, people don't care because they''ve already made their minds up.

sashh · 14/04/2020 08:34

It's not even been proven to actually help yet Trump has decided that there needs to be a solution and that Hydroxycholoroquine is it!

Yes the British researchers can't get hold of it. But guess who has shares in the company?

As for his approval rating, if he wants it to go up all he has to say is, "Everyone who has a gun gets a free gun tomorrow"

TheMistressQuickly · 14/04/2020 08:35

He’s the ultimate Narc. It’s obvious that Melania secretly hates him.

I do think he possibly has early on-set dementia. Either that or has become totally delusional.

LouiseTrees · 14/04/2020 08:36

Here’s an idea for the American press. How about air the scientists speaking and when trump speaks go to ads and then cut back straight away. Stay on when Pence is on but cut away when Trump is on.
