Reporters pointlessly standing outside places

This is a wank and pointless idea at the best of times - but now?

Just watched a bloke reporting on the economic impact. He was standing outside the treasury in London. Utterly pointless and not essential in any way for him to be there - there was nothing to see.

Ha ha yes. I've always thought that. And in these times it's totally ridiculous.

I think they do it to provide context and try to show they’re ‘at the heart of the story’ so viewers have a better visual cue for whatever they’re reporting on. But you’re right, not likely to get a surge of activity on camera at the moment!

I completely agree!! It annoys me so much when reporters are stood in Leicester Square or Oxford Circus talking about how quiet it is. They’re saying that people shouldn’t leave the house unnecessarily but it clearly isn’t necessary for reporters to be in these places! I did see a news company outside Buckingham palace a few days ago and the police turned up and I’m assuming they were asking them to leave which was good.

Yes, I was getting very annoyed about this when they kept standing outside that hotel in Tenerife that they'd locked down (seems like months ago now but think it was only about 4 weeks). Completely pointless as they'd have to video chat people in the hotel, the reporter did not need to be there at all.

Totally agree, complete waste of resources. Like when they send the "Scotland correspondent" up to Glasgow ro cover some story, because we don't have journos up here.

It is ridiculous, sending them round to all different places to stand outside somewhere. Crap journalists and pointless, unnecessary travel.
