My husband is 65 high blood pressure and atherosclerosis yet not received a letter to say he is at risk. Is this right does anyone know please?

he might well be in the risk group but probably not classed as high risk - that tends to be those who are immunosuppressed or with severe lung conditions

however I am sure if you ring your GP they can give you a better answer

In Scotland only the very high risk groups that need shielding get a letter. (ie not contact for 12 weeks) your husband falls into the slightly higher risk along with the over 70s and people who get the flu Jag.
We have 7500 patients and 2100 in your husband's category but only around 130 in the very high risk group. These are the ones that get the extra help. It is the immunosuppression in these people that put them at risk as the virus harms them a lot more. For example only asthmatics on high dose steroids are on the list because the steroids make them immunosuppressed rather than the asthma on its own.

Thank you

Not sure why you'd want to be in the shielding group anyway. (My DH is) No going out at all for 12 weeks, not even for a daily walk. It's extreme and very bad for mental health. The only "perk" seems to be the box of food essentials delivered weekly.

Crunchymum · 13/04/2020 16:46

Will your DH be able to shield anyway?

If you feel the risk is high enough.

MindyStClaire · 13/04/2020 16:55

Your DH may be vulnerable, which means taking the same precautions as the rest of us, but being more careful. The letters are going out to the shielding group who are very high risk.
